Ivory Coast: UN warns of forgotten humanitarian crisis
By Imogen Foulkes
BBC News, Geneva

An appeal for $32m has received just $7m so far.

UN aid agencies are already struggling with serious security issues in their operation in Ivory Coast - now they have serious funding problems too.

"No funding for the $16m we need to buy food on the market to get it into Ivory Coast," said spokeswoman Emilia Casella.

"This is an extremely trying time for everyone, but if we cannot get funding for our Ivory Coast and Liberia operations now, we are not going to be able to buy the food and acquire it for the people who need it, even three or four months down the road."

2. Ain't that a pisser?
Money for war while people go hungry. Meanwhile at home we have a "deficit problem" that requires "shared" [code word: BULLSHIT) sacrifice . You are not only one who thinks the world lives upside down and back wards. Depends on what our leaders focus on.

3. This is heart rending. 400,000 people have been displaced from their homes.
Women and children are fleeing, taking nothing with them.

It is unfortunate (maybe catastrophic) that this human tragedy has been overshadowed by the Libyan crisis.

6. War is very profitable to some people.
But not to the American people in general. Taxes are being cut, while all these expensive wars are going on, while we are going deeper into debt. Borrowed money is being siphoned out, and given to war profiteers' pockets. Meanwhile, the USA is going broke.
