Workers Being Ordered To Remove Mural About . . . Workers
GOP Governor Orders Removal of Pro-Labor Mural -- Are We Still in America?

http://www.alternet.org/teaparty/150368/gop_governor_orders_removal_of_pro-labor_mural_--_are_we_still_in_america/

Can a citizen file suit in Maine for a temporary restraining order to halt the removal?

Can (or will) the Legislature challenge the removal?

The removal reminds me of Nelson Rockefeller ordering the removal of the mural he commissioned by Diego Rivera, except for the fact that Rockefeller based his decision on the fact that Rivera included Vladimir Lenin in his work. The theme was also praise of the American worker.

1. Does anyone know if the murals are on canvas or are they painted on the walls themselves?
Either way the governor's actions are despicable, but if the removal of the artwork means destroying them, this could be approached as preserving pieces of history.

2. They are apparently on plywood sheets, MDO* to be exact.
So not technically a mural I guess, but the advantage is it's portable without destroying it.

It can be moved to a place that is hopefully more labor-friendly than the FUCKING DEPARTMENT OF MOTHERFUCKING LABOR!!!

That's at least a small touch of good news.

7. Good. I find the removal of this work simply obscene.
