Cantor thinks the House can pass a budget without the Senate OR the President approving!
Crazytown Just Keeps Getting Crazier
— By Kevin Drum| Wed Mar. 30, 2011 10:09 AM PDT

A growing swath of conservatives apparently thinks that states can seize control of all federal healthcare spending just by banding together and getting Congress to agree. They also apparently believe that states can require taxes to be paid only in gold or silver bullion. What's next? Now they believe that the House can pass its own budget, H.R. 1, without agreement from either the Senate or the president:

House Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-Va.) said at a press conference that Republicans would consider the Government Shutdown Prevention Act on Friday. The bill would make H.R. 1 law if the Senate fails to pass a measure “before April 6” to fund the government for the rest of the fiscal year.

....“We’re serious. We want to take care of this problem so we can get on about the business of this nation and get Americans back to work,” Cantor said.

By Republican standards, I guess this actually does count as serious. But that says more about modern Republican standards than it does about the meaning of the word "serious."

2. Cantor also recently said Social Security "cannot exist" if we want America to be great in the futur
Rep. CANTOR: I mean, just from the very notion that it said that 50 percent of beneficiaries under the Social Security program use those moneys as their sole source of income. So we've got to protect today's seniors. But for the rest of us? For - you know, listen. We're going to have to come to grips with the fact that these programs cannot exist if we want America to be what we want America to be.

"Government Shutdown Prevention Act can be passed, it has to be passed in the Senate as well and be signed by the President...it will never happen.

4. The President's signature makes it "law"
Either that or a 2/3 majority veto override.

I learned that in 5th grade. Jeez.

7. By both houses of Congress.
Hey, think of what we might have gotten as health reform if we hadn't faced the GOP roadblocks in the Senate.

9. That isn't what Lil' Eric "thinks:"

13. "the bill would ..." but only if THIS bill itself becomes law.
he knows full well that this is just posturing/pandering to their base.

many houses and many senates have passed many bills knowing full well they would never become law, and they always say "the bill would ...". implicit in this is "but only if the senate and the president cave to our version of what we should do."

14. Eric is, unfortunately, my Senator, and also a good friend of one of my good friends,
and I'm not certain he thinks this is posturing. The man is seriously dense.

11. I figured out their game.
Step 1: Pass a bill that says a budget must be passed by April 6, or else HR 1 automatically takes effect.
Step 2: April 6 comes and goes with no budget passed. Republicans declare that HR 1 is now law.
Step 3: Obama doesn't honor HR 1 - because he CAN'T. Government shutdown ensues.
Step 4: Republicans declare Obama responsible for shutdown because he refused to implement HR 1 (even though it never passed Congress and isn't law)

15. Its a scam to make the DEMs take the blame if there is a shutdown...
Even Boner mentions Dems are to take the blame...

But Eric blew it....he was so excited to blame others he overlooked facts....
