Maine Senate Republicans criticize LePage’s comments, actions in upcoming OpEd

UGUSTA, Maine — Members of his own party are publicly criticizing Republican Gov. Paul LePage for recent controversial actions and rhetoric and are calling on the governor to reject “government by disrespect.”

An OpEd column written and signed by a number of Maine GOP senators, which will be published Monday in some Maine newspapers, hints at a rift within the Maine Republican Party.

“We feel compelled to express our discomfort and dismay with the tone and spirit of some of the remarks coming from him,” states the piece, which was obtained Friday by the Bangor Daily News. “Were this an isolated incident and not a pattern, we would bite our collective tongues, because we are all human. But, unfortunately, such is not the case. We feel we must speak out.”

The Republican senators go on to criticize LePage for putting down others who disagree with him and diverting attention from important issues as evidenced during the recent removal of a mural from the Department of Labor offices.

It happened in Wisconsin, Ohio, Maine, and probably others I don't know about. I was surprised that the greedy were this successful in getting the stupid to vote for classless, intemperate representatives of their corporate oppressors in the 2010 elections.

2. it was a hugely split election

LePage only won with 38%, 62% of the voters voted for someone else. Not the first time in Maine, I'm sure it won't be the last.

7. The democrat should have dropped out and asked voters that

were for her to vote for the Independent. She had campaigned poorly and did public stunts that damaged her candidacy. Yet she refused to put the people of Maine before her ego, now Main has LePage.

It was a close race between Cutler and Mitchell. What's obvious is 62% did not vote for LePage. I imagine 62% would have voted for either candidate over this clown. There ought to be a threshold of at least 40% to have a winner declared....frankly I think that's low and I'd prefer a numerical majority. If I'm the Republican Party and I know I can't win on a majority vote, I make sure there's an independent in the race to split the other side. I wouldn't have expected either one to drop out, but I'd support a run-off type election where the 2 top vote getters are pitted in an instant run-off.

who I disagree with generally, do something that shows they are not just thinking in lockstep.

4. Let's not pat their backs too hard

Before we heap too much praise on these Senators, let's remind ourselves that, while they object to LePage's tone, they are 100% in support of his extremist agenda. In Fact, their complaint is that LePage's antics are making it harder for them to enact their right wing lunacy.

5. It is wonderful to see republicans getting a taste of their own medicine, finally.

The extremist "bagger" republicans are treating the "real" republicans in the same contemptuous, classless way that republicans have been treating Democrats for many years. I love watching them squirm!

I agree with those who pointed out that this is just an attempt to deflect negative press. Still, it's always good to see LePage criticized, and amusing that it's his fellow republicans doing it this time.
