Repubs in Washington believe Repubs in heartland are stupid...
and will follow them wherever they lead?

Maybe? Maybe not?

For many years, they have brainwashed these poor people into believing that taxcuts create jobs. With all the evidence indicating otherwise, they still preach it like Elmer Gantry.

The Repubs in Washington believe the Repubs out there in the heartland will do whatever they are told to do. If they are asked to give up their Medicare, then so be it. So long as they can get those lazy Democrats off the rolls.

If they are told that they can cut the deficit by cutting taxes drastically, why should they not believe it? It has been disproven in spades every time they have tried it. It failed for Ronald Reagan and he raised taxes. It failed for George W Bush and he kept on spending and running the country into debt. No one questioned his theory? Now we can see that it was a tragic mistake.

But the Repubs in Washington have complete faith that the Repubs in the heartland will support them. They believe they have done the job in brainwashing them over the years, with the help of Limbaugh and other right-wing propagandists, they see no political consequence in voting for more taxcuts for the wealthy or cutting Medicare. It is disrespect of the highest order. After all, if it is good for the wealthy, it is good for the Repubs in the heartland.

1. That combined with the Bible thumping
Preachers who encourge their flock to vote on "social issues" sure helps them clear votes.

3. No doubt, Magistrate...
They now believe it is set in concrete. No one dare disagree with the Washington Repubs.

4. If they really believe that, why are they still working so hard to brainwash?
The GOP isn't even TRYING to win back 'fiscally conservative' voters, or independents.

5. They believe their job is now complete...
If there are ends to be tidied up, the corporate media is there at their beckon call.

10. I don't mean to be a pissant, though I do think that what I did to you is a pissant
move. It's just that certain mistakes (like this one) are, though insignificant, very, very common, and with the internet's power to spread info (or misinfo) so widely and rapidly such mistakes get locked into common usage almost immediately.

That particular boo-boo is ridiculously minor, of course, and it's everywhere, so I think more people make it than not--which is probably why so many people do make it: they see it everywhere, so it creates a feedback loop. Eventually, I believe that popular usage will turn it into accepted usage, though standard grammar and usage are very conservative and lag far behind common usage.

I meant to PM you, but I was rushing and did something I normally don't do--and I feel like an a**hole for doing it. I am making this comment public simply because I owe you an apology for acting like an a**hole.

People often bitch (rightly, I think) about the "grammar police." The fact is, in a way I am the grammar police. (That's part of my day job as well as my avocation, because I teach college English and also post articles on my grammar and usage website, as well as tutoring people in grammar, as well as in almost all other subjects at all levels, except for high level math and science).

But I despise people who go around correcting other people's minor errors without invitation--and especially in public--as I just did. (Sorry, sorry, sorry! What I did is a major msitake, not a minor one!) God knows I make mistakes, too, when posting in a hurry--even when I know better. It's embarrassing to check back to read replies to my own posts, because I often find ridiculous errors in my posts, but the editing window has already closed, so I can't even fix them!

BTW, If you'd like to see me doing my grammar cop schtick in the appropriate way, you might like to visit my Grammar and Usage for the Non-Expert website (http://www.grammartips.homestead.com/index.html). It's my most popular site, and readers seem to like that I will answer questions of grammar and usage for them if they can't find the answer among the articles posted on the site. Also, the homepages to all my sites have links to my other nine sites, and I write on a wide range of topics that you (and others) might find interesting.

Again, please accept my apology for being a jerk.

6. I seldom agree with repubs in Washington
But I have to say they are right on target with that assumption. It's worked pretty well for them for many years now and if they can get people to vote themselves into poverty by appealing to racial and religious fear then why should they change.

7. Well, What Would YOU Call A Group Of People Consistently Voting Against Their Own Interests? SMART?
Midwestern Republicans make about as much sense as John Boner pursuing a bill to ban spray-on tanning.
