Doc Martin - - - possible spoilers.
I like this program so much I'm watching again, from series one, episode 1

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Doc_Martin_episodes

Some of the thing I enjoy about this TV show are:

Cars are backwards; driver is on the wrong side

The village Portwenn looks live someplace I would enjoy living

The road from Portwenn to Auntie Joan's farm is one vehicle wide

Door knobs in the center of doors sure look odd

The Large father and son

1. Doc Martin series is very charming and fascinating...
I'm getting ready to introduce it to Mr. Tikki.

I say it'll be like bringing home a surprise pet...he may protest a bit
at first until he settles in with it..
Then he'll just love it and it'll be his idea to watch it in the first place.

Tikki
Your recommendations always appreciated.

2. Door knobs and such....
Portwenn is really the Cornish Village of Port Isaac and the adjoining bay of Port Gaverne, a place where I spent many a vacation in my childhood/youth. It really is exactly as portrayed on the show although I expect, due to the show's popularity, it is probably not the quiet, sleepy idyllic backwater it once was.

I still, after 30 years, walk around to the wrong side of a vehicle - especially if I am to be the passenger - the steering wheel should be on the right - the cars here are backwards!

The one lane roads are typical of Cornwall, Devon and a few other 'rural' counties. They are your typical 'country lane', usually surrounded by high hedgerows.

The doorknob thing had never occurred to me. Do you mean on the front door or interior doors? The centered one on the front door is pretty standard - it's more a 'pull/push' - it doesn't move - the key opens the door and you push with the knob (or pull it closed with the knob.

I'm currently watching series 2 again as it showing up here (Vancouver Island) on PBS - it's my third time and I still love it!

3. Another show in a similar vein, although not available on streaming,
is Kingdom, which stars Stephen Fry as a small-town solicitor. His character is a much nicer person than Doc Martin, but the ornery relatives make up for it.

(It is available on Hulu.)

4. Read where another series of Doc Martin is supposed to be filmed in 2011.
But it will probably be a while before one can stream it......z

:bounce:

This is one of the best shows I've seen in a long time. The whole thing is charming and funny. Though the SO keeps saying "How come Baron Harkkonen never has enough money...." :D

edit: There are new episodes out. Let's just say, they aren't on Netflix yet.

8. The pilot was very different.
It's on YouTube, if you want to check it out. It still takes place in Portwen (called something else), but Martin is an OB/GYN who decides he wants to be a fisherman after he finds out his wife was sleeping with all of his friends.

Oh, and Martin is normal in this one.

Did you know Craig Ferguson is the producer?

9. Loved it!
Again, didn't think I would like it at all as he is such an ass. But I miss the show as Netflix doesn't have the next season up yet.

The dialogue is incredibly funny and so well written.
