Democratic National Committee CEO resigns amid hack scandal

http://thehill.com/blogs/blog-briefing-room/news/290141-democratic-national-committee-ceo-resigns-amid-hack-scandal

The CEO of the Democratic National Committee (DNC) has resigned in the wake of the email hacking scandal, The Hill confirmed Tuesday. Amy Dacey is stepping down, and other changes are expected at the DNC as well, The Associated Press reported.

Late last month, nearly 20,000 stolen emails published by WikiLeaks showed top DNC officials talking about undermining Sen. Bernie Sanders's (I-Vt.) presidential campaign. The revelations caused an uproar among Sanders backers right before the Democratic National Convention began last week in Philadelphia.

Outgoing DNC Chairwoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz relinquished her role of presiding over the Democratic convention and stepped down from her post at the DNC in the wake of the hack.

In one widely criticized leaked email, DNC CFO Brad Marshall appears to write about a plan to question Sanders’s religion at a campaign event in Kentucky or West Virginia. Dacey wrote “AMEN” in response.

Crowd of 66,397 turn out

Crowd of 66,397 turn out for Packers practice at Lambeau Field

GREEN BAY, Wis. - Lerentee McCray played in the Super Bowl last season, so nothing about an NFL training camp should faze the former Denver Broncos outside linebacker. Then he walked onto Lambeau Field for Sunday's Family Night and was greeted by 66,397 fans -- for a practice.

"When I came here on my visit, I saw Green Bay was a little different," said McCray, who signed with the Packers this offseason. "But to walk out there and see all those fans, it was definitely like a wow factor to be here."

...

The same goes for another first-timer, rookie linebacker Blake Martinez, a fourth-round pick. Martinez has been working with the starters throughout training camp, but his NFL experience went to another level Sunday.

"Oh, it was unbelievable," he said. "I remember going back to my Stanford practices. We'd probably have, our open practices, maybe 10 to 30 people out there. And to come out and walk out and have [66,000], it was unbelievable. I don't think I've ever had that many at an actual game. So it was a great feeling, and it was fun to get out there and get that atmosphere under my belt."

Ahhh, the Packers. Noteworthy that thirteen NFL teams averaged fewer attendees for real games last season.

The Republicans here fear our message

Here in Waupaca County, Wisconsin, the Democratic Party has signs posted around the area proclaiming we stand for "healthcare as a right" and "debt free college" as part of our core values. The Republicans just can't tolerate that ...

Vandals destroyed our Democratic signs in Waupaca at Hwy 49 and Elm St by railroad bridge!!!! It was NOT the usual vandalism, it was VIOLENT destruction with something like a sledge hammer and pieces were everywhere!

Bernie’s big lesson: Socialists should occupy the Democratic Party, not abandon it

http://www.salon.com/2016/08/01/bernies_big_lesson_socialists_should_occupy_the_democratic_party_not_abandon_it/

But Stein is wrong: Sanders’ experience shows the current limits of third-party presidential politics and the real possibility that the left can use the Democratic Party toward radical ends. If Sanders had run as a Green or independent, he would have traded in his revolution against the one-percent for the prospect of getting just one-percent of the vote—which is what Stein is currently on track to pick up. Instead, he won millions over to democratic socialism and into left politics.

...

“We are very close to building a majority coalition within the Democratic Party,” said Lev Hirschhorn, who worked as a regional field director for the Sanders campaign in Philadelphia, at Wednesday’s forum. “I have no interest in trying to reform the Democratic Party or pull the Democratic Party to the left…I think, however, that Bernie Sanders has demonstrated that we actually can take over the Democratic Party. That we have the ability. We are very close.”

...

Sanders’ overwhelming support from young people, as Jacobin’s Bhaskar Sunkara argued on Wednesday, is the centerpiece of a political coalition better positioned to shape the future than Donald Trump’s. The bulk of that coalition is currently in the Democratic Party, and that’s where the left must engage them—they cannot simply be relocated to a third party by leftist fiat. It’s also, however, vitally important to maintain organizations independent of the Democratic Party—and to build the bases of more radical parties locally, from the ground up. No one understands this better than Sanders, who was positioned mount his historic primary challenge within the party only because he had spent his political lifetime outside of it.

Sanders activists have already remade the party, though only modestly so far. Clinton, after all, is the nominee. But the platform, to a significant if limited effect, is now a much better one, and Clinton chafes at new political constraints imposed by the left. Socialism is no longer a dirty word, and establishment figures must at least pretend to oppose corporate trade agreements. Last Monday, Sanders used his primetime speaking spot to warn Congress against passing the Trans-Pacific Partnership during a lame-duck session — an incredible shot across the bow at a Democratic president during a Democratic Convention.

Biden Chokes Up While Describing Hardworking Americans Who Can Only Afford Shitty Ditch Weed

PHILADELPHIA—In an emotional address Wednesday night at the Democratic National Convention, Vice President Joe Biden reportedly choked up while describing the thousands of hardworking Americans throughout the nation who are only able to afford shitty ditch weed. “I’ve met good, proud Americans all across our great land who bust their ass day in, day out for the man, and it breaks my goddamn heart knowing that they barely have enough money for this brown, dried-out garbage that’s all fucking seeds and stems,” said Biden, pausing to regain his composure and wipe tears away from his eyes as he recalled the poignant story of an Akron, OH resident who worked tirelessly at two jobs but still lacked the financial means to pack a bowl with killer green bud. “For Christ’s sake, it kills me to see decent folks—folks who are our neighbors, friends, and parents—trying to make a living and doing their very best, and yet they’re still too broke to buy the sticky ganja that gets you totally baked. These are real Americans forced to settle for torching up super-harsh dirt weed that gives you a big headache and just crashes your ass out.” At press time, Biden had reportedly started sobbing in the middle of an anecdote about a “hot little spark plug” in Phoenix who had to scrape resin from her pipe every morning just so that she could wake and bake before work.
