Trump says he sleeps four hours a night.

Sleep acts as a cleansing agent to remove the brainís toxins. That's why doctors say we need at least 7 hours per night -- "not five or six hours because you think you can handle it."

You can live for about three minutes without air, three days without water and about 21 days without food. But in between food and water, there is something else critically essential: sleep.

It turns out you can only live about 11 days without sleep. You can give it a try if you donít believe me, but, just like the other essentials, after day 11 you will probably die.

Sleep is one of the most important things we overlook, because most of us donít consider it vital. The problem isnít you ó itís your brain. Brain scientists really donít know what they are talking about when it comes to sleep. For far too long, we have known too little about why we sleep. Instead of acknowledging that fact, scientists have made up fairy tales to explain our need for sleep. They have guessed that sleep is necessary for creativity, rest, rejuvenation and recovery.

.......................

When it comes to the brain, we have no artificial way to replicate nature. Thatís where sleep comes in, by reducing the brainís size to make room for the mental mouthwash. The process of sleep very elegantly acts as a cleansing agent to remove the brainís toxins.

4. Good one!

If Trump heard that Obama slept three hours a night, perhaps he'd cut back on the zzz's.

2. I remember learning that long ago - you can live without food longer than without sleep

People who think that going without sleep won't harm you are full of it. As is Trump...

5. If you have ever suffered with insomnia, you know the value of sleep.

There are few things that are as aggravating as not being able to sleep. And the after effects of not getting enough sleep are terrible. You feel like your brain is in a fog, your thinking impaired and slow. No doubt that sleep is a vital component to good brain functioning. And the lack of sleep could help explain some of tRumpís flawed thought processes.

17. Been there, done that

By that third night I was willing to try just about anything to get some sleep. I'm quite a bit better now. What ultimately works best for me is meditation. I started out by using headphones and listening to guided sleep meditation online. It took awhile for it to work in the beginning. Now I can generally do it on my own, and I even use it sometimes when I'm stressed when I'm awake.

Still, I can't remember the last time I got eight hours of sleep in one night. If I make it to seven, I feel like I won the lottery.

30. I have insomnia from time to time. Not every night, thank goodness.

If I fight it and try to will myself to sleep, it rarely works and usually makes it worse. I resort to reading which often makes me sleepy enough to drift off. I know using an electronic device like a phone, laptop or iPad is considered bad, but I can bore myself to sleep by playing solitaire or working on a jigsaw puzzle on my iPad. Sometimes Melatonin helps, too. But flipping and flopping like a pancake is the pits! So I read or do something mindnumbing (like solitaire) until I fall asleep. I have been known to drop my iPad (ZZZZ) but fortunately never dropped it further than into my lap.....not the floor. 😉 P.S. sometimes I read DU! But that tends to give me nightmares, so I try to stick to the Lounge for late night reading. LOL

Fellow insomniacs, I feel your pain!

33. Solitaire

Me too! I did try going without electronics for a few hours before bed. It didn't seem to make a difference. Generally I can play for about ten minutes now before I'm nodding off.

Besides the meditation, one thing that really helps me is getting more physical activity during the day. I have fallen off on my daily walks because when I have time it's too cold or too dark. When I still had my best friend around (my dog), I wasn't allowed to make excuses and got lots of walking/running in. I sure do miss him. I know he added years onto my life. And I know this past year of 45 and repubs is sucking those years away from me again.

6. I Literally Only Get about 5

I'm a burst sleeper. Sleep 45 minutes to an hour. Wake up pretty charged. Fall back asleep in 30 to 45 minutes. Rinse, repeat.

Been that way for 50 years or so.

8. Not unusual. Sleep patterns can change as you age.

No doubt he takes ďnapsĒ during the day. He might call them power naps, but they are just plain old getting older naps.

Also I would not be surprised if his concept of time is getting bad. If you informed him he vacationed over 100 days this past year, he would mostly deny it, not because of the ďworking vacationĒ bullshit excuse, but because what little time he has spent in DC seems so much longer to him.

Or, he could just be an outright narcissistic liar. Hahaha

11. I doubt that Trump has ever read or seen Macbeth, but ..

"Sleep that knits up the ravelled sleeve of care
The death of each day's life, sore labour's bath
Balm of hurt minds, great nature's second course,
Chief nourisher in life's feast."

William Shakespeare .. Macbeth

15. Well he does not think or reason or evaluate.

He does not learn, he does not actually use his brain. He reacts emotionally and does not question sources.

Considering he does not use his brain, it does not need much sleep.

Also this is bad for his overall health, so that is not a problem for me.

20. Therefore he doesn't.

That was easy.

Trump sleeps as much as he wants to. He drinks as much as he wants to. He watches TV as much as he wants to. He golfs as much as he wants to. He eats as much junk food as he wants to.

Trump has never shown much in the way of self-discipline.

25. IF this is the unique situation in which Trump is telling the truth,

There are people who are geneticaly wired to sleep very few hours (just as there are. genetically wired night owls, early risers.

http://www.businessinsider.com/some-people-only-need-a-few-hours-of-sleep-2015-12

As a genetically wired night owl, who is constantly assumed to be lazy becuase I don't start work at noon (even though my work days generally run from 12-15 hours) I'm sensitive to allegations abotu what is needed/normal for sleep.

37. Apparently in the pre-industrial days, people would regularly nap for an hour or two after supper,

Wake up again for an hour or two worth of easy activity (pick-up type cleaning, talking, reading, writing, playing games, sex, whatever...), then go to back sleep for six to eight hours until they would get up to do the next day's tasks.
The first "nap" was to rest the body, then the sleep was to actually rest the mind.
