This:

the Constitutional crisis we face isn't Trump our system was designed to handle an unhinged president.

the crisis we face is Rs in Congress choosing to aid & abet Trump's assault on our democracy rather than checking him.

8. Yes. I heard a woman (some expert) on tv talk about this, her concerns.

She stated that our system of government was not set up or intended to protect our democracy against the kind of all-out corruption we are experiencing. No one thought that such a thing was likely in our country.

I forget who she was. She was on MSNBC...an older woman, I think. Not a politician or pundit. She was some expert of some sort. If I had to guess, I'd guess she's an author or a professor.

It was scary to hear her say that. That we may not be able to defend against the all-out assault that's going on, because of the Senators and Representatives who are part of it. And now the judiciary, and cabinet members, and department/agency heads. It's like an Octopus with tentacles that are reaching into all parts of our government, aided and abetted by those in power.

Remember candidate Nixon's secret overtures to the Vietnamese, and candidate Raygun's to Iran?

This shouldn't be a surprise to anyone.

how much damage will be done before they are booted out? That disgusting display of them all taking turns genuflecting to their "leader" was an eye opener. Does he have the dirt on all of them, and is he using blackmail to keep them in line? Greedy bastards have been selling the country for years, behind the scenes. Now they feel free to do it openly, with tRump at the helm and the Russian $$$$ and dirty tricks in their corner. We had better take action, SOON.

16. Our Founding Fathers never saw this coming.

Equal branches, checks and balances, etc. This is the real problem. Since so much that is currently occurring has no precedents the constitutional scholars are at a loss. What can be done? This is completely uncharted territory and the 25th Amend., The Emoluments Claus, pardons....is not being addressed and will not be enforced. We have TREASON committed on national and state levels and the media is involved as well. This is beyond a constitutional crisis!

19. IMHO Congress (as an institutional body)

Has abdicated waaaayyyy too much political power to the Executive Branch since the beginning of the Great Depression for the sake of political laziness. I'll cop that not all of it was bad, but mostly...yeah.

Can you imagine the kind of fit the Congress would have had, if a post - civil war Executive had sought even a quarter of the level of political power a modern president wields?? I can't either, and Congressional political territorialism was the check that made sure those executives knew it, too...

26. Somehow, they managed

to block President Obama in many, many ways. A decent man, trying to make the country whole and equal. Now they have the greedy, self absorbed, VILE, orange shitgibbon in the WH, and they pull out all the stops. Cut him loose. WHY? Do they admire him because he has no morals, no intelligence, just forges ahead like a spoiled child? Imagine a democratic president getting his entire family into office (unpaid, supposedly) and costing taxpayers millions month protecting their greedy asses? Impeachment would have been implemented months ago. Here is one of the truly idiotic people EVER to run for office, getting his butt kissed in public by these men who expect citizens to vote for them. What are we missing in this fiasco? The entire world can see what a clown tRump is, yet the gop continues to (publicly) protect him. WHY? Blackmail? Russian money and dirty tricks? Surely, they can see what the entire world sees when tRump appears. The man is a joke. Unfortunately the joke is on the ordinary citizens of this country.

38. Mitch McConnell being gone would be the furthest thing from a loss...

a blessing for the country, rather. He's been an on the record obstructionist, and out of hand since President Obama's inauguration day. He's just as blatant since Trump slithered in, and just can't seem to keep the shit-eating grin off his face these days. Paul Ryan? No words are sufficient.

20. No comment on the post right above yours?

Not that I don't appreciate your post, but ... kinda disappointed

Or maybe you crossed wires, given they're only 5 mins apart ... cause I thought when I saw your post directly under that one ... you'd have addressed it

I do think you're right insofar as they couldn't foresee an era when communication would be instant, allowing for easy coordination among an entire 'political party' ... on a moments notice.

In fact, they didn't really even foresee a 'two party system', originally. Rather, they thought (quite logically, given the era) that everything in politics would remain very 'regional', not that there'd develop 'two opposing parties aligned by differing general ideologies'. I think they thought regional concerns would basically amount to many dozens of 'parties' existing.

How we ended up settling for this two-party system ... where one of two, whichever has even the tiniest of majorities ... basically has nearly unchecked powers ... completely baffles me. I think the Founders would turn in their graves if they saw what we've allowed to happen since they set out their framework.

As flaws became apparent and as times changed. It wasn't intended to be treated as the sacred untouchable thing it is today. It's such a dangerous way of thinking too.

35. "We don't need no thought control".....Putin, Fux Ruse.

And...."toys in the attic, crazy, truly gone fishing...they must have taken his marbles away"...the fake prez and those who aided and support him. Roger Waters is an ending source of politically and socially related lyrics. When I became a teacher his song (posted above) was always in the back of my mind.

I seem to recall that there was another party for awhile. The Federalists, then The Whigs were a serious party from 1790-1824. The other major party was the "democrat and republican party". Can you imagine our current bipartisan Congress actually being a single, joint party? The fake prez and his cobal would be hanged.

...the voters did their job, in spite of the suppression. The win by Gore was close - but both GW Bush and Trump were clear losers. The Electoral College conflicts with its own Constitution. Of course, the Republicans are in charge of everything and won't make a change.
