NCAA Presser regarding Penn State | A Rough Synopsis

I am just citing terms that jump out at me. Being a slow typist, I often miss stuff, but here ya go:

"Reckless and callous disregard for the children."

"Powerful people let the children down."

"Egregious behavior"

"Leadership failure over a long period of time"

Punishment:

Fine of $60M (equal to one year football revenues)

No post season for 4 years

Scholarships reduced for 4 years

Players may transfer without penalty

Scholarships stand

Vacate all wins from 1998 to 2011

5 years probation

Possible formal charges against individuals

Ongoing monitoring for compliance. NCAA to appoint the monitor.

It will not be long before ESPN spins a story about the plucky team and their
coach who are now playing for each other.

These were the right penalties, especially the $60 million fine. They punish the school, but not the students who could not have prevented thing from happening.

I agree that these are the right penalties. The rescinded wins are especially novel and smart - a direct comment on what was gained by this despicable inaction. Very well done, NCAA.
