A New Years update for Trump voters

Have Trump’s promises come to fruition?

This article was originally published by RobertReich.org.

Almost one year in, it’s time for another update for Trump voters on his election promises:

1. He told you he’d cut your taxes, and that the super-rich like him would pay more. You bought it. But his new tax law does the opposite. By 2027, according several nonpartisan analyses, the richest 1 percent will have got 83 percent of the tax cut and the richest 0.1 percent, 60 percent of it. As Trump told his wealthy friends at Mar-a-Lago just days after the tax bill became law, “You all just got a lot richer.”

2. He promised to close “special interest loopholes that have been so good for Wall Street investors but unfair to American workers,” especially the notorious “carried interest” loophole for private-equity, hedge fund, and real estate partners. You bought it. But the new tax law keeps the “carried interest” loophole.

3. He told you he’d repeal Obamacare and replace it with something “beautiful.” You bought it. But he didn’t repeal and he didn’t replace. (Just as well: His plan would have knocked at least 23 million off health insurance, including many of you.) Instead, he’s doing what he can to cut it back and replace it with nothing. The new tax law will result in 13 million people losing health coverage, according to the Congressional Budget Office.

4. He told you he’d invest $1 trillion in our nation’ crumbling infrastructure. You bought it. But after his giant tax cut for corporations and millionaires, there’s no money left for infrastructure.

5. He said he’d clean the Washington swamp. You bought it. But he’s brought into his administration more billionaires, CEOs, and Wall Street moguls than in any administration in history, to make laws that will enrich their businesses, and he’s filled departments and agencies with former lobbyists, lawyers and consultants who are crafting new policies for the same industries they recently worked for.

The original rule: In ten years nobody will remember the details of caliber, stance, or tactics. They will only remember who lived and who didn't.

My adaptation: In 10 months no one remember details of campaign promises, accusations or smear tactics. They will only love that they won.

I mentioned my friend who was elected to state office and explained that campaign signs were important because people tend to vote for the names they've seen the most. She said that everyone wants to vote for the one who they think is "the winner."

In my opinion, Not many, if not all Trump voters read anything from DU. Although, I like this forum as to discuss democrat issues with democrats, I find it disturbing that we, and I do it myself address to the opposite party what has or has not happened, when most likely, the opposite party does not ever look here for information. I would NEVER consider looking at a right wing website or fox news, simply because I know its fabricated, I believe this is the sentiment of the right as to left websites and forums. WE need our leaders to be saying this to the country. We need Schumer, Pelosi to start saying these things, something like what Senator Frankin did ..... oh wait.... he got fucked by the left.... ok so.....

They are suckers, to be sure, but most knew exactly what they were voting for. Racism and misogyny at the top of the list.

10. If Trump were smart, he would go liberal this year

Legalize recreational marijuana, change labor rules to be friendly to labor, whatever. It would endear him to the blue side of the country and his base would not leave him. He could even get the Republicans on-board for whatever reason he got them flattering him like Kim-Jong Un's sycophants. I firmly believe his base don't care what he does as long as they can see themselves on the winning side. It's like supporting a sports team with them.

Of course, it won't happen because he's not.

Against certain issues. Not that he'd ever do it, he's neither a liar nor a hypocrite, but it says quite a bit about Trump's ridiculous agenda just knowing that all he cares about is whether any issue was one that Obama supported.

14. #45 voters: So deluded that they think their massive "tax cut" will tide them over until the Rapture

As much as one wants to envision them suffering with regret over their Trump vote, by all accounts, they couldn't care less that he hasn't done a thing. No big deal to them.

They adore him because he's an absolute asshole who makes life miserable for Democrats and other "elites." They eat that shit up. Never underestimate their absolute pride in being rustic and undereducated -- they wear it like a badge of honor ("I went to the school of hard knocks, libtard&quot . Trump's race-baiting is like their favorite song. "No wall? Who cares? Listen to the man run down those _________!!!"

It's a cult. I have no doubt that some would give their lives for their Deplorable Leader.
