(7,615 posts)That's what I heard in the Army when the wind was blowing, as in: "It's -7 but the Hawk is out."
I'm from Florida (where it was 80 yesterday) and wasn't used to northern weather when I joined.
I had to attend an event in NYC the other week and the hardest thing to get used to was all the bundling up and then disrobing once inside (where it was invariably overheated). When going in and out of restaurants I noticed many of the locals didn't even bother taking all that stuff off in spite of the heat.
Stay safe, I remember electricity didn't even seem to work all that great at those temperatures, fluorescent lighting in particular.

(13,087 posts)So far, so good with the electricity.
I have gone 5 days and nights without electric during an ice storm.
The fireplace saved the day !!!!
I just bundled up and walked to the mailbox.
Covered my nose and mouth with a handkerchief.
Worked out well.
I have a long driveway on a slope.
Easy going down, sometimes not so easy coming up.
