I just wonder if the Repubs are going to try to overhaul healthcare again, given that it's an unpopular thing to do (but so was the tax bill, and that didn't stop them).
I'm guessing not, because of the midterms?

(24,392 posts)that McConnell said he is not going to try again this session. With Jones now seated, the chances of a greater healthcare overhaul via reconciliation are slimmer to nonexistent now. Of course, we shouldn't think about letting our guard down now. They were able to pull together on the tax scam and dealt a blow to ACA by repealing the Individual Mandate, so...........

Still, I think it would be very difficult. Actually repealing the mandate took away some incentive for the politicians to risk their popularity on a healthcare bill.

(24,392 posts)Hopefully, that will be enough for them. I'm still shocked that McConnell was able to get Collins and Murkowski to agree with repealing the Individual Mandate, as they also refused to vote for the "Skinny Repeal". Of course, what McConnell "promised" Collins for her vote doesn't seem like it's going to happen either but apparently she was satisfied enough with his promise....for some reason.

(37,648 posts)It happened at end of the year, after everyone had signed up. Once you sign up for a subsidy, it's impossible to cancel, I think. But not sure.
We may not see the effects of that until next year. (Unless, of course, a Democratic Congress reinstates it. )

(11,725 posts)Likely with the repeal of the mandate, the market places will collapse once the young healthy people no longer have to get insurance and the ACA will collapse in a matter of time.
Ryan was gearing up for "Entitlement Reform" and though McConnell will not likely want to do anything like that, this was going to be the new way to make sure that the wealthy people's money was there for them. Remember that they wanted to repeal ACA not only because it undoes President Obama's legacy, but to strip out the money from Medicaid and Medicare that helped to fund a good chunk of the ACA. They are looking to mess with Social Security too in order to access the money that is supposedly in the trust. They want every last public dollar so that they can redistribute to the wealthy.
