Trump's sole job:

keeping the base ginned up.

You can understand the dilemma of mcconnell, et al. - should they find their scroti and do the right thing @ trump as his crimes and misdemeanors become proven - the base is gonna turn on THEM, as we've seen, a la bannon.

In the meantime time - useful idiots.

Mainly because he is not smart enough or stable enough to figure out the best way to handle
his current situation.
