Jonathan Swan: Bannons comments wont surprise anyone whos spoken to him, but as on the ]record statements they are shocking sources close to the president. The White House was prepared for the Wolff book to be bad for them and sources there have told me he spent a ton of time in the building visiting with Bannon but they werent prepared for Bannon doing this.
Bannon touched the third rail of Trumpworld going after the presidents blood family.

(5,524 posts)Although this has been announced as a bomb that has just detonated it has really been on a long fuse.
It is a book that is just now coming out so the actual statements took place in interviews months ago.
This actually implies that the interviews were before Bannon left the White House. I was working under the assumption that these comments were retribution for being pushed out.
If they happened before he left then he was playing wrecking ball while still being part of the team. That really is one Machiavellian bastard.

(182,773 posts)There will be a serious void at the top of their party so maybe Bannon thinks he can fill it.

(3,280 posts)I don't want to touch any of them, but I love that they're taking big bites out of each other after spending so long legitimizing each other. They have no loyalty to each other or to anyone.
Scariest thing today was I saw some offhand comment on Twitter today asking "Is Steve Bannon part of the #resistance now?"
It's since been deleted. All I can say to that is not only "No!" but "Hell no!"
Just because he's sniping at Trump now does not mean he's on our side. He's still a rabidly anti-feminist, homophobic, racist, white nationalist, and white supremacist. My only hope is that all of this infighting between Bannon and Trump will serve to de-legitimize Breitbart and so much of the far right "news" conspiracy propaganda machine.

(6,390 posts)...something along the conservative revolution they fought for was gone or some BS.
He probably made these comments when he already knew he was on his way out. He probably considers everyone in there traitors to his cause.
From what I read of the excerpts of the book, it was the Mercer's and Bannon who funded and helped his campaign and the Trumps are ingrates.
It was also Jarred who convinced Trump of firing Comey and Bannon advised against it. Bannon probably found out they were guilty but thought they could weather it. I bet the day Comey was canned was the day Bannon realized the fun was over.
