Maybe this is crazy, but...could Romney be looking to fulfill the White Horse Prophecy as senator?

Think about it..."the Constitution hanging by a thread saved by the White Horse"--Senator Romney leading the fight against tRump????
edited to add: not that I beleive a word of it, but Mittens might!

2nd edit to add link to prophecy on wikipedia

At least it is not so worrying to have him think he is on a prophetic mission as a senator as it might have been if he had made it to the presidency. And to have a least one elected Republican trying to preserve the Constitution would be a good thing.

I'd heard of this many years ago, but never paid much attention to it, but Romney might well take it seriously.

11. I'm thinking about his hat in the ring for 2020. There is no Mormon running for national office...

or Idaho, Nevada and parts of Wyoming? In UT and ID, the state governments are owned and operated by the LDS. You can hardly get a job or start a business in Idaho if you're not a member.

He'll win the senate seat easily, and will probably throw his hat in the ring for the 2020 presidential.

Ambition doesn't die. It just waits for a new opening.

13. Could he be hoping for a Ford appointment?

If Pence goes first, then the VP will be appointed. Then if Trump goes, he is president. And since he was previously accepted as a GOP presidential candidate, the GOP might be hoping for less fuss about sneaking him in that way than some other Senators.

16. Our only progressive hope is that he'll see stopping tRump as the goal

A goal that a senator can shoot for...if he tries to set his cap for a higher office, we're screwed. But if he thinks that the way to save the Constitution is by stopping the tRump administration...

Gawd, I hate the idea of depending on some ass with a Messiah Complex!
