I'm talking Monday thru Friday, not weekends when you may sleep in and pig out on Belgian waffles, bacon, etc. lol
I don't feel like eating anything until around 10:00. Coffee comes first. If I eat at all before noon, it's a piece of fruit such as a banana or some yogurt scooped out of the big carton while standing at the sink and watching my bird feeder.
My spouse can roll right out of bed and eat a seven course meal. And he's very fit and lean!

(66,309 posts)I keep boxes of oatmeal at the office (where I am now...).
I heat up a bowl or two using the water cooler's hot-water function, and eat it at my desk, getting caught up on paperwork.

(32,078 posts)On days when I have an early spinning class, I have some sort of protein bar and some water. I can't exercise on a full stomach. Sometimes, I'll have a bit of yogurt, instead. I'll have coffee when I get home, and some fruit or other snack mid-morning. Otherwise, it's usually oatmeal--Bob's Red Mill Extra Thick, with a pat of butter. And, coffee. Lots of coffee.

Add chopped tomatoes or any chopped veggies... I also favor beets. Microwave for 2 minutes or stove top until ready. Prepare a soft boiled egg and mix that into the cooked oatmeal and veggie mix. YUM.

Vegan! Didn't even think of that. Used to be a vegetarian for many years then married a hard core carnivore. I sneak a meatless something or other under the radar whenever possible. Best avocados I ever had were called Butter Avocados (I think?!?) that my co-worker brought me from Hawaii. They were to die for. I dream about them sometimes, Cha.

(43,164 posts)When I was a kid, it was almost always cereal, every day. Didn't even love cereal, but that's what I had.
Saturdays my dad usually made us pancakes, or if he was feeling lazy, toasted up some waffles.
As an adult, I'll alternate from day to day. Some days a bagel. Other days a frozen waffle. Other days, scrambled eggs and toast. Rarely it's cereal.
I'll always have coffee and orange juice. My day feels incomplete without it.
I've become partial to making "Eggs in a basket" out of English muffins (what I knew as "Moonstruck breakfast" growing up because they featured it in the movie Moonstruck). I'll cut the center out of an English muffin, drop an egg in the middle, and fry it up. Sprinkle some Old Bay seasoning on top. (Since no part goes to waste, I'll fry up the center cuts as well.)
On Saturdays or Sundays, I'll be the one to make pancakes for my kids. I don't know if they appreciate it as much as I did, but I still love pancakes.
Dare I say, breakfast is perhaps my favorite meal of the day.

When you're heading out in 10 degrees and minus windchill to carry buckets of warm water from the kitchen to horses, donkeys, goats, chickens, various waterfowl, and a bunch of barn cats, because all of the hoses are frozen, you'd best be prepared. It takes about an hour, by the time you also feed.

I grew up in Wyoming, but our horses had some kind of heating tape on the trough that prevented it freezing. My mom would take a gallon jug of water to the bunnies, but that was it.
We hope to get electricity to the barn so we can have bucket heaters. But that still doesn't thaw the pond. The cats were out playing on it earlier.

(17,615 posts)..maybe a feeeeew shredded spuds...all scrambled together..add some peppers and onions..topped with more shredded cheese and rolled in a hot low carb tortilla for a breakfast burrito. Topped with sour cream and some hot sauce. I get up between 330 and 4 am and hubby gets up at 5 for work. I've eaten by the time he's up and he keeps the remaining warm, wraps it up as a burrito and eats it in the car as he's heading for work.
Hubby loves to cook so sometimes he makes breakfast casseroles in individual ramekins. Pretty much the same ingredients but more spuds and sometimes rice. He freezes them so they can be pulled out and nuked.

(34,135 posts)Of other flaked grains. The local food co-op sells a good mix of grains and Bob's Mill mixed grain cereal. Sometimes I go for plain oatmeal.
Because the mixed cereals take longer to absorb the liquid I was mixing them the night before and storing in the fridge. Then most or all of the liquid is absorbed and I just had to nuke it enough to cook the grains.
I need to go back to that - without the pre-soaking, it takes much more time to cook breakfast.
For a quick breakfast I'll eat cold boxed cereal, with no milk. If it is cold, I want it crunchy.
I've tried to make breakfast with less carbohydrates and more protein but my body just does not want a lot of protein in the morning.
New Year's morning I made buttermilk pancakes with the buttermilk left over from my cornbread muffins. Those were good, but I wouldn't work that hard every day. Since I had even more buttermilk left, I made another batch and froze them. Now I can pull out a couple of pancakes and nuke them until they are hot.

strawberries, blueberries, blackberries, raspberries, red grapes, banana slices, walnuts, dried cranberries, and flaxseed meal. It's a feast, and a healthy dose of antioxidants and fiber to start the day.
On weekends it's occasionally scrambled eggs (sometimes with added chopped onions & bell peppers and/or avocado) with toast & jam, grits, and Gimme Lean veggie sausage; or oatmeal with spices (cinnamon, allspice, cloves, cardamom, freshly ground nutmeg) and chopped dried fruits (dates, figs, apricots, cherries, cranberries), plus minced fresh ginger, toasted almond slivers, Grade B maple syrup, and milk. YUM!
Beverages: at least one tall glass of water every morning, usually a small glass of OJ, and black coffee (ground fresh and brewed with a Hario pour-over dealie) every other day -- black tea on alternate days so I don't get too strung out on coffee.
Dang, now I want to go to bed so I can get up and have breakfast!

And of course coffee - strong and black. Perfect mix of protein, fat, and carbohydrates for me. Eaten at ca. 6 AM. Keeps me happy until noon or later.
Is it healthy? Some people may say no because of the bacon but my numbers are good so I am not going to change. I like my egg, bacon and toast, thank you very much😄

(14,565 posts)My blood tests were the best ever a few months ago so I guess I've stumbled onto a good diet.
The protein shake is somewhat complicated but I enjoy making it every morning:
* 2/3 container of Premier Protein chocolate shake (purchased in bulk at BJ's whenever the 12 case is on sale)
* Unsweetened almond milk on top of Premier Protein to fill out 2 cup jar, then dropped into the blender
* Organic ground cinnamon from Aldi...I shake the small jar three times into the blender
* Two small scoops of chia seeds
* Two small scoops of golden flaxseed meal
* Two hefty spoonfuls of avocado
* This is the complicated part: Frozen pre made bag of -- 1/3 sliced banana, 1/3 sliced apple, 3 small carrots from Aldi bag, small handful of blueberries (maybe 14), small handful of whole almonds (maybe 15), small handful of raw pumpkin seeds
* 12 ice cubes
I don't know how I came up with that combination but it works great. Tastes like a chocolate shake. You don't even know the other stuff is in there. I have had friends ask me to write it down specifically, after tasting it in my home. I mix in a Hamilton Beach blender with a wide base. If it is not a wide based blender then everything stalls. I had an Oyster but that was tornado shaped and absolutely sucked.
I put everything in the blender except the 12 ice cubes initially. Once the original stuff has blended to moderate consistency I drop in 6 ice cubes, then once that has reached the same consistency I drop in the final 6 ice cubes. Once in a while I screw up and allow it to blend too long, becoming too thin. But maybe 2 minutes from start to finish is ideal.
I make 9 bags at a time of the mixture to be frozen. That method allows me to use 3 bananas and 3 apples, before slicing. The mixture fits well in regular sandwich bags.
