(11,282 posts)From when Al wrote Rush Limbaugh is Big Fat Idiot.
He always had the balls to go out after the pukes and then he was stabbed in the back while he was leading the charge.
Who's leading the fight now?
No one.

(39,405 posts)Unfortunately, this is partly his own doing, by not sticking with with his "wait for the ethics committee" position.
Democrats have gotten better at standing up to Republicans but still fold like an origami swan when these personal attacks come up.

He is a major league class act. I trust him and who he vouches for.
And I believe that he doesn't vouch lightly.
I will follow him. He has earned it. And I thank him.

remain so for a long time. I do not forgive and forget as easily as Al does. He should be honored for his achievements and the Dems who railroaded him out leave a sour taste in my mouth.
***I will always support Dems and have voted staight ticket in all elections (local, state, fed) since 1980 when I turned 18. However I do NOT have to agree with everything they do nor how they do it. That's just me and I am a loyalist.

(63,903 posts)I think Dems have learned something from this. We can't be all "scorched earth" on the Dems when the repukes have their death squads out for us.

vote for Dems but this really hurt the country because Franken was a real fighter and terrific during confirmations. Exposed Devoss, exposed Sessions. Inspired a lot of trust. He was the real deal. Wellstone's voice.
Due process suffered too.

(1,646 posts)I think Al would pass the "purity test," as close as any human could, given a fair assessment.
I am so grateful he is willing to put himself through this.

(47,405 posts)This is not something I will let go of easily, as what happened to Franken goes against everything I believe and everything the Democratic party should represent.
It is not too late for those who asked for his resignation to apologize and admit they were mistaken. They have set a terrible precedent for the party.

Not up to the arithmetic now, but I believe I was the first election cycle of voting at 18. Voted the first time I could and ever since, anyway. My parents trained me so.

comedian who was there had a part in my fave Normal Lear show- All That Glitters. So of course I sang a bit of the theme song for her, which made him laugh hard! It was in the Air America days, he did a forum on political radio.

(13,305 posts)...and my caveat is that I will not support Gillibrand.
If the Democratic party decides that they will reward a former Blue Dog with the nomination.
If the Democratic party decides that they will reward someone who used Bill and Hillary Clinton to get a Senate seat and then turned on them the minute it suited her needs.
If the Democratic party decides to reward the person that led the charge against one of her own, one of the most liberal Democratic Senators that we have(had), particularly when he was considered by almost everyone to be one of her main 2020 competitors.
If they Democratic party decides to do this then I will know that they have learned nothing and have continued down the road they started on what I consider to be the beginning of the end of their convictions, that being when they chose Joe Lieberman as their VP in 2000. That is that the most important thing is rewarding those who tell the Republicans what they want to hear and internalizing their criticisms.
Gillibrand is my own personal line that I will not cross.
I have many issues with other leading 2020 lights like Booker and Harris and even Warren (all 3 were also a bit too enthusiastic about piling on Franken), but they all have other aspects of their political careers that I respect and more than enough positions that I agree with them on and that I fee they are 100% sincere on.

(42,699 posts)I won't say what I think of those people.
And I won't say what I think of anyone who is saying they won't support a particular Democrat if that person gets the nomination.

Just like the folks who helped elect the monster in the white house by applying a purity test.
vi5
(13,305 posts)Any more than they do yours. I'm under no illusions.
As for your own purity test it appears to be "support Democrats" but you're willing to support a Democrat who violates that exact rule on multiple occasions. You are literally holding anonymous posters on a message board to a higher standard than a candidate for the Presidency of the United States.
Got it.

(42,699 posts)But, if at the end of the process, she was to win the nomination, I would support her fully. From where I sit, we have no choice to rally behind whomever the Democratic party voters choose as the nominee to ensure we control the WH after 2020.

(1,646 posts)Because Al, all praise to him, will not let that happen.
I wouldn't blame him if he quit. He's entitled to quit, having given back more than he's gotten.

(15,366 posts)and, while I STILL believe that this was all a hatchet job and am very pissed off at those who threw him under the bus so quickly, will NOT lose my focus.
I will support ANY Dem candidate over a GOPer ALWAYS! Period. And especially in 2018. Please do NOT let this wretched affair make any of us lose sight of that!
I also believe that GOPers will find Al even more effective against them outside the Senate. Because Al KNOWS what's at stake and is not at all shy about saying so. If anything, he has NO constraints whatsoever now. And he is a lifelong Democrat.
GOPers may well have cause to regret letting him not worry about re-election, although I also believe that Minnesotans would re-elect him in a heartbeat.
Those who truly support Al should also support anyone he recommends.
