(21,998 posts)It's bitterly cold and the old dog doesn't want to go outside. Strangely, WeatherUnderground says that the real feel is -6º! How is that possible?
Thankfully, the heat is on and the Nordic fireplace is cooking along.
Stay safe, redwitch.

(21,998 posts)Our place is actually in Damascus, PA. It's less than a quarter mile across the Delaware river from the village of Callicoon. We spend as much time there as we can. The area is so beautiful. But right now, it's fiercely cold!

(3,608 posts)to swim in the Delaware River. Damascus was one of the best locations because there was a little "side pond" which was perfect for the kids. After one of the major storms, the landscape was changed and was not the same. =( There was also that cute ice cream parlor on 371 that we missed very much when it closed.
I have not spent any time up there in the winter...my place is seasonal. It's bad enough down here so I KNOW how cold is up there....brrrrrrrrr is right.

(21,998 posts)But it's going up a to balmy 30º!
Barryville's a cute village and we occasionally go to Narrowsburg to eat. I know the little "side pond" you wrote about. Our place is upstream and we frequently raft or inner-tube to that spot to exit the river.
Although we primarily live in NYC, we've been spending more and more time in the country. With the internet, my business can operate almost anywhere and we love the beauty and quiet.

(21,998 posts)The two things I loved about the 25 years I lived in Glen Cove are the waterfront/beaches and the vast array of public golf courses. They're reasonably price, well-maintained and easily accessible. Many of the courses are open year-round provided there isn't any snow. You just have to dress warmly!

It's a balmy -8 here in MA.

(14,941 posts)I have often wondered what kind of psychological test one has to pass to be stationed there in the winter. Do you think they have Netflix?
