Much Distress Over The Dems Nominating A Black Female Celebrity
But #45 isn't even the first repibliklan inserted into our White House. Here's Ronnie before he was giving out bj's at the 1964 RNC.

1. The distress is over this particular celebrity.
The very same person who has foisted all kinds of nonsense on the general public. She is the godmother of the modern antivax movement. Would you want Dr. Oz, that purveyor of woo as Surgeon General, for instance.
Sometimes people really are unqualified. Would you elect someone blatantly unqualified just because they checked one or more boxes? How stupid is that? |

20. Only idiots are "distressed" at this trumped-up silliness.
Makes me almost agree with those who think society would be improved by long hours of physical labor. Less time for this sort of divisive nonsense.

23. The implication is that all opposition to her is racist and/or sexist when it is not.
Not by a long shot. Just like criticism of Obama due to some of his actions was not, in fact, racist.

Who's starting them? WHY?!
Don't you have something smarter to do than obligingly start swinging every time someone shoots a verbal spit wad at you? |

3. The distress is over electing another celebrity with no government experience
Being female and black has NOTHING to do with it.
To suggest people who do not want another inexperienced TV celebrity as President are racist or sexist is totally absurd. To say folks must support Oprah because she is black and female is equally absurd. |

8. +1
I want somebody who has some public service experience and who isn't just a celebrity. If she decides to run and is nominated, I'd gladly vote for her as she would be a tremendous upgrade over Trump but I think that we need somebody with some more experience in government (i.e. Kirsten Gillebrand, Kamala Harris)

22. And to suggest her draft into public service is being taken seriously
And to suggest her draft into public service is being taken seriously by anyone other than a few outliers is absolutely daft.
Distress yourself no longer... it's not an idea that's being given serious consideration by anyone of note, it's simply fun, idle and benign speculation. |

6. When did the dems nominate a black female celebrity?
What's sad is the dog whistle attached to what we are seeing. People seem to be in such shock that a POC gave an excellent speech that they must elevate said individual to the Presidency. Clearly some seriously sheltered individuals.

10. Seems to be another case
of progressives looking for another Presidential "savior" in the WH instead of focusing on the nuts and bolts of what we actually need in order to make systemic, long-term progressive change, which is to say that we need a more progressive Congress in 2019-2020 and then need a progressive President AND maintain a progressive Congress in 2020, 2022, 2024........

What *am* I thinking?
![]() When will we learn that electing a good President is only part of the battle and that a progressive President, despite having the ability to do many wonderful things, can still be restrained and have their agenda obstructed by a hostile opposition. |

12. More likely
The Russian trolls are worried about a strong Dem candidate that can easily bitch slap the orange cancer that now infests our White House. B T W please ask your boss if he will be shutting down the DU again like he did on election night 2016. Thank you.

27. Here's a little something
from the WP that points out the efforts that the republiklans and the Russian trolls will take to bring down Oprah, if she decides to make a run of it. Just like the king of the Russian Trolls Vlad Putin, shut down the DU on election night 2016. Enjoy.
Oprah might run for president. We did the opposition research for you. Since everyone's suddenly talking about Oprah 2020, let's talk about what her campaign might look like — or more specifically, what her opponents might do to it. There's no reason to think politics will become any less brutal in the next two years. And there's every reason to expect that opposition researchers would happily dig through Oprah Winfrey's storied history as a talk-show host, cultural icon, fake book promoter, advocate of mystical healing powers, fearer of hamburgers and apparent chum of Harvey Weinstein. Not to mention the child sex abuse scandal. Here's a sampling of the awkward and potentially problematic issues that Winfrey might have to explain on the campaign trail. https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/the-fix/wp/2018/01/09/oprah-might-run-for-president-we-did-the-opposition-research-for-you/?utm_term=.e8e1f488fad2 |
