I can't recall any time there has been so much hatred for a president nationally & internationally.

I can think back as far as Truman, and I just don't recall so much animosity and distrust, globally, toward a US president. And the reputation of the US has been tarnished so damn much. So much healing will take far far longer than just a new decent president of the US.

Thousands protest Bush’s Inauguration

Not since Richard Nixon paraded down Pennsylvania Avenue in 1973 has a presidential Inauguration drawn so many protesters -- and last time, people were out to protest the Vietnam War.

Demonstrators turned out in droves on Saturday -- a miserably gray and drizzly day, with temperatures hovering in the mid-30s -- to protest the Inauguration of President George W. Bush, whose election was contested all the way to the Supreme Court. Police would not estimate the size of the crowd, but many thousands of protesters were in evidence.

15 February 2003 anti-war protests

On 15 February 2003, there was a coordinated day of protests across the world in which people in more than 600 cities expressed opposition to the imminent Iraq War. It was part of a series of protests and political events that had begun in 2002 and continued as the war took place. Social movement researchers have described the 15 February protest as "the largest protest event in human history"

never forget that Bush came into office and immediately cut the Army corp of engineers' budget for three years in a row. The cuts stopped the already in progress 1995 SELA project, which was repairing the worn levees. This includes the levees that filed during during Katrina. The ACOE knew about the weak levees, but they did not have the money to fix them. Never forget that Bush refused to put, unlike presidents before him, emergency response teams in place before the storm. Never forget that Bush was eating cake on a runway when Katrina hit and all he did to help was to figure out ways for his buddies to make money off of the misery of the people of New Orleans. Straight out - Bush caused the flooding of New Orleans and totally bungled the recovery efforts.

a certain, hazy fondness and/or reshaped into an intellectual (Nicolle Williams attempted to convince her audience how GW was a student of history and an avid reader), then you know we've entered a very bizarre period. Even Nixon is now given props although in all honesty the 'I'm not a crook" president was never a dope and pushed some very progressive ideas and policies.

But with Trump?

I'm not sure it's all hate but it's certainly a total lack of respect. Because the man deserves none, not by his words or behavior or attitude. He's an arrogant, know-nothing who would be King if we gave him half a chance. I think his admiration for Pooty stems primarily from Vlad's stranglehold on power, something that Trump would love to imitate. Even yesterday, The Donald was complaining about U.S. libel laws in the wake of Wolff's expose'.

How presidential!

As for international relations? We can only hope that they're mendable at the end of this debacle.

But for right now? We look like idiots which only emboldens our enemies and threatens our national security. It's going to take a long time to recoup our reputation after this. Something we should never let the Republicans forget!

Yes, a majority of us believe that Trump is a miserable excuse for a human being and that he is the worst president we’ve ever had. But once Trump is gone, we’ll still have many of the same old issues. Too many people on one side hate the other side so much that some even say that Democrats, or Republicans depending on your politics, do not deserve to live. Such hatred between conservatives and liberals (though I prefer progressives) will not just disappear, so it will be interesting (or perhaps frightening!) to see what follows.
