H&M Ad - the coolest monkey in the jungle - Boycott them

-----
I will no longer allow my teen girls to spend my hard earned money at H&M ever again. It is absolutely appalling that they would put out such a racist ad. I thought this was 2018, not 1948.

I've seen t-shirt websites where they use the same body shot and just switch out the hundred or so t-shirts and you know the model never actually tried on the multiple shirts.

I'd hope that there is no one who might've been at a model shoot and saw this and said nothing. It'd still be horrible if someone shopped it, but it'd be slightly better than if someone tossed this kid a shirt and then took a picture while everyone from management to craft services stood by silently.

But this strikes me as a very unfortunate accident rather than racism being company policy. I can't see a big company thinking that being racist is a good business plan.

I wasn't aware of their brand until I did a case study on them in college.

H&M is known for being a trend setting company. How in the world does that make me sound like a snob? Too funny. Sometimes wanting to call someone a name comes before all else.

Nothing trendy here.

And a majority of their online presence is geared toward adults. They do have robust and trendy options for "children" as well.

its the same as the fun people have disparaging "hipsters".

I suppose that's reverse snobbery.

I'm not clever, and both the simple and the complex elude me.

Could you specifically explain how it's a pejorative?

They didn't anticipate the overreaction from the "everything is racist" brigade and the actual racists who would gloat, giggle and make fun.

What an expensive goof up for them. The one I saw was from the UK site though, maybe it wasn't as much of a 'this might be racist' thing on the radar? Just a guess.

But I don’t remember the last time I set foot in a mall lol.
