Sen Casey got hold of the memo Trump gave to the House Freedom Caucus showing how Trump et al plan/planned to dismantle the ACA (Obamacare). He's now released the memo to the public via Politico.

(3,515 posts)Single payer puts the patient in charge more than our system does.
I could switch doctors more frequently than someone can with American insurance (pre-Obamacare insurance).
The doctors know what services they can't provide without authorization, but just about all the services you need are authorized.
A lot of things like alcohol detox (for my neighbors, not for me), things we consider alternative medicine, things that aren't covered here, were covered under a couple of the single-payer plans.
You can still buy private insurance if you want to and get things most people don't need or want like a private hospital room.
I loved single payer health insurance.
I never had to worry about being covered. Everyone had health insurance.
If you doubt that our health insurance system is still bad, look at the life expectancies in various countries. We are, I believe, 31st on the WHO list and 43d on the UN list.
We should at least be in the top ten.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_sovereign_states_by_life_expectancy
Note that on the OECD list, we are 26 out of 34 countries. That's shameful.
Please look at the lists and see which countries have longer life expectancies than we do.
Of course, the murder rate and guns have an effect on our life expectancy as a nation.

(3,515 posts)Look at where the US is on life expectancy lists. That tells the story. Even if we do have an extremely high murder rate.

(15,265 posts)I personally love the new, more aggressive Sen Bob Casey. I remember his dad could get his Irish up, too.

That will be the next battle on this front, he said. Its part of our obligation to do aggressive oversight, especially when the oversight involves something as serious and grave as to whether someone can have health insurance..
