"We should have more people from places like Norway"

Why on earth would someone from Norway want to move to a country where they'll have to pay exorbitant prices for healthcare, sky-high tuition to send their kids to school and really no system or program to allow them to retire with some quality of life left to enjoy.

Not to mention, a country governed by a lunatic and his band of thieves.

They speculate that PM Solberg must have made a good impression, but:

The statement has been reproduced in several major media in the United States. On social media, the individual who asked the question of why in the world, Norwegians, with a free health care service, would like to move to the United States.

Remember, it was mostly kids killed at a Labour Party youth organization summer camp, some as young as 14. He killed 69 people there, and eight with a bomb elsewhere.

And Breivik's far-far-right political beliefs place him squarely in Trump's camp -- he'd fit right in.

The average Northwestern European (including ALL of Scandinavia) is better off than most middle-class Americans, and has been for several decades now.

In point of fact, many of us vote against the Republican Party and their wealthy backers because we fear that they want to turn the USA into a third-world sh$$-t-hole through their policies.

Much less stress. Healthcare. A government organized around the needs of people.

However, we DO have something the Norwegians and other states in Europe do not. A while ago, I had the privilege of attending an Economic Development luncheon that featured Katty Kay as the keynote speaker. For those who may not know, Kay is the anchor of BBC America News. Her keynote was brilliant. It really was very thoughtful.

One of the points I remember her making is that we've done two things very well. First, Trump has been very good at getting NATO countries to cough up money up to 2% of their GDP to support the alliance. That's good, because as Pat Schroeder, an elder and highly esteemed stateswoman from Colorado (used to be a US Representative) used to say, we pay for the defense of all these other countries and it doesn't leave us money for programs that help Americans. She was right then, and is certainly right now, if you look at the sheer magnitude of our military/national security spending in relation to everyone else's.

Secondly, and most germane to this post, she said that one of the things we have going for us here in the US (in spite of these xenophobes) is we're really a melting pot, or salad bowl, or whatever metaphor you want to use. In plain English, we do assimilation pretty well - not perfectly by a long shot, but pretty well. Specifically, she said that Muslims in America are Americans first, then Muslims, where in Europe, because of the failure of these more homogenous cultures to assimilate immigrants, they consider themselves Muslims first and Europeans second.

Below is a link that exposes the 'dark side' of Norwegian culture for minorities such as the Sami and Romani, as well as Muslims.

That were inflicted against the original natives and subsequent non-English and northern European immigrants. There hasn't been an ethic/cultural/racial group that hasn't been targeted by verbal and frequently physical abuse by the groups that have already been established.

I think the "melting-pot" phrase was a cute term invented in the feel-good 50's to help cover up our mutual atrocities.

Having lived and worked in a few countries in Europe I think the assimilation and cohabitation has been pretty damned good. Don't forget all of the people of color (and others) that left the US in the 1900's to thrive in Paris, London, Berlin.

Humans are not far removed from their tree-living tribal roots. We tend to prefer similarly looking, thinking cohorts. And we should not fight this tendency but use it to make the fabric of our societies more interesting.

The Norwegians love living in Norway. They are very patriotic, they love their King, and they love the Norwegian flag- which the put on everything. They have a great culture and live in the most beautiful country in the world. The last place they would want to move to is America.

My overall impression is that it is a beautiful, prosperous, clean, well-run nation. Most of the people there don't want to go anywhere else, certainly not to a poorly-run shithole with approximately 60 million angry-idiot voters.

They send us the short, dark haired people without huge bank accounts. Rump can fix this! We need rules that say immigrants can't have black or brown hair, can't be under 6' if male or 5'6 if female, and must own shares in trump company.

(that was snark for the ironically deprived).
