Senator: Graham confirmed Trump made "shithole countries" remark

senator: Graham confirmed Trump made "shithole countries" remark

....................

Scott, the Senate's lone black Republican, told The Post and Courier on Friday that Graham confirmed the newspaper's account of the conversation, which Scott said he found "incredibly disappointing."

“We ought not to disparage any other nation, frankly," Scott said. "Thinking about the success of America. It is the melting pot. It’s the ability to weave together multiple communities together for one nation.”

Graham reportedly challenged Trump on the comments, according to an account of the meeting earlier Friday from Democratic Sen. Dick Durbin (Ill.).

"My colleague (Graham) spoke up and made a direct comment on what the president said,” Durbin said, according to MSNBC. “For him to confront the president as he did, literally sitting next to him, took extraordinary political courage and I respect him for it."

Two GOP senators said Friday they "do not recall" President Trump's reference to "shithole" countries during an Oval Office meeting on immigration. Sens. Tom Cotton (R-Ark.) and David Perdue (R-Ga.) issued a joint statement saying they did not recall the president making the exact comments, and called out Sen. Dick Durbin (D-Ill.) for confirming the comments. "In regards to Senator Durbin’s accusation, we do not recall the President saying these comments specifically but what he did call out was the imbalance in our current immigration system, which does not protect American workers and our national interest," the senators wrote.

It took the bare minimum of human decency, Graham was not brave. He's wrong on many issues, but Graham is one of the few Republicans that has a shred of humanity left.
