It's outrageous that we stay away from the voting booth in stunningly high numbers.

(32,992 posts)So, "we" don't stay away from the polls. I've never missed an election - of course, I vote by mail so it's pretty easy.
The issue is reaching those who do - the disengaged, the "both sides are the same"-ers, the people who have to work, etc.

This is four consecutive years of Republican presidency with the approval rating stuck in the mid 30s to low 40s at highest -- Bush from Katrina forth and now Trump throughout his tenure. Newly registered voters are most influenced by the approval rating of the president when they turn 18 years old.
If all we do is go on talk shows and rant about Trump, that's a form of suppression in itself. Those kids are not going to vote in huge numbers right off the bat, and they won't decide on their own to register in high numbers. But if we make it the absolute priority to get them on the voter rolls then it will pay off handsomely down the road.
