I've gotten into a FB argument with a woman who claims Ted Kennedy used "shitty" to describe those countries and immigration too. I've googled and can find one Breitbart slam from today but that's not what it says. It quotes him saying they aren't going to take over but it's utterly unclear whether he's pro or anti immigration.
Has anyone else run across this RW argument and can you point me toward it?
Thanks.

Mind that trump spoke as President on a policy matter. Ted Kenny was never President. He was also for more articulate than the orange shitgibbon ever was and never had to resort to such language.

(53,342 posts)First, our cities will not be flooded with a million immigrants annually. Under the proposed bill, the present level of immigration remains substantially the same
Secondly, the ethnic mix of this country will not be upset Contrary to the charges in some quarters, [the bill] will not inundate America with immigrants from any one country or area, or the most populated and deprived nations of Africa and Asia
In the final analysis, the ethnic pattern of immigration under the proposed measure is not expected to change as sharply as the critics seem to think The bill will not flood our cities with immigrants. It will not upset the ethnic mix of our society. It will not relax the standards of admission. It will not cause American workers to lose their jobs.
Kennedy was a huge advocate for immigration.
Der Shitler was not only disparaging the nations but the people, too. Esp with his take them out comment re: Haitians

(5,969 posts)If he said it, it would be wrong and he would have deserved similar criticism. It doesn't mean that the President of the US can be openly racist without facing opposition. That is an insane logic and a poor attempt to deflect from the topic and also a clear sign that they have no real defense for these statements.
No use getting into a dispute about whether Kennedy said it or not. The topic is Trump being a racist and what a disgrace he is.

(4,066 posts)It doesn't matter if Hillary said it too. It is still wrong and still not appropriate from the President of the US. Period.

I'm seeing RWNJs saying "if they're not shitholes, I challenge you to move there" and thinking they just won the debate.

(41,959 posts)Those countries have some terrible problems, lack of opportunity, some corrupt governments, poverty, etc. and say it with respect. Shithole has nothing to do with fact. Its bias, disrespect, insult and racism. Thats my response to any of those go live there comments.

(11,936 posts)We call a 3rd world country a 3rd world country for a reason.
The problem isn't that Trump acknowledged the shitty living conditions of 3rd world countries.
The problem is:
1. Trump singled out countries that have BROWN people explicitly
2. Trump thinks those people are lesser human beings because of the condition of their country

(10,611 posts)The RW is glomming onto the term to deflect from the point that Trump is equating the shittiness of the countries with the people who want to come to America from them.
To emphasize this, he asked why couldn't the U.S. receive more people from Norway?
The bottom line? He only wants people from European, WHITE countries to emigrate to America. That is the intent of what he said.
Whenever someone wants to zero in on the word, they need to have the entire sentence put in front of them, along with the question he asked about people from Norway.
