His power comes from money that he directs to get people elected who will vote as he wishes.

The money comes, of course, from big donors with whom he has very beneficial relationships. When it's time for him to get reelected, his donors supply the means to bury his opponent under a mud flow of negative coverage.

Every once in a while a brief statement from the senate majority leader is called for, and he gives a brief one. But otherwise making statements to "the people" or trying to schmooze them up is a big waste of his time, and he has said exactly that before.

I've watched McConnell for many years and he never, never criticizes another Repug. He follows St. Ronnie's 11th commandment to the letter, and as you said he's been in the pocket of big tobacco, big coal and the healthcare industry all along.

When McConnell uses the term "the people of Kentucky", I've always known exactly who he means and it ain't me or anyone I know.
