Think the weekend was hot? You must've spent your Monday inside.

Monday's 105-degree high tied the record temperature for July 23, set in 2005.

It was so hot it might delay the pick up of the city's trash. Omaha Mayor Jim Suttle's office said trash at some homes in the Monday service area would likely still need to be picked up Tuesday.

The city's trash contractor, Deffenbaugh Industries, planned to work Tuesday to finish the missed collections and to collect materials in the regular Tuesday collection area.

FULL story at link.

...EXCESSIVE HEAT WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 8 PM CDT WEDNESDAY...

* TEMPERATURE...MOST HIGH TEMPERATURES SHOULD REACH 100 TO 105 DEGREES EACH AFTERNOON THROUGH WEDNESDAY WITH HIGHEST HEAT INDEX VALUES IN THE 100 TO 108 DEGREE RANGE.

* IMPACTS...THE PROLONGED NATURE OF THIS HEAT WAVE MAKES IT ESPECIALLY DANGEROUS FOR THOSE WHO WORK OUTDOORS OR DO NOT HAVE AIR CONDITIONING. IF YOU MUST WORK OUTSIDE...TAKE PLENTY OF WATER BREAKS IN THE SHADE AND IF POSSIBLE SCHEDULE MORE STRENUOUS ACTIVITIES FOR MORNING OR IN THE EVENING.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

AN EXCESSIVE HEAT WARNING MEANS THAT A PROLONGED PERIOD OF DANGEROUSLY HOT TEMPERATURES WILL OCCUR. THE COMBINATION OF HOT TEMPERATURES AND HIGH HUMIDITY WILL COMBINE TO CREATE A DANGEROUS SITUATION IN WHICH HEAT ILLNESSES ARE LIKELY. DRINK PLENTY OF FLUIDS...STAY IN AN AIR-CONDITIONED ROOM AND TRY TO STAY OUT OF THE SUN. ALSO...CHECK ON RELATIVES AND NEIGHBORS THAT MAY NOT HAVE AIR CONDITIONING.
