My at 89 has worn hearing aids since she was sixteen when she had some bad ear infections. Sometimes with her hearing aids off she cannot make out the words said by the sounds but then watching the lips of the people speaking she often understands anyways.

The idea is if they say isn't true enough then perhaps the brainwash by rote will work. Sort of like singing a song

And to be sure, this song they are trying to sing might be off-key but they will still keep trying to sing it none the less
