Chelsea Cirruzzo, WUSA 7:14 PM. EST January 14, 2018
PRINCE GEORGE'S COUNTY, MD. (WUSA9) - During a service attended by Vice President Mike Pence and his wife on Sunday morning, a pastor in Prince Georges County denounced remarks made by President Trump earlier this week.
I stand today as your Pastor to vehemently denounce and reject any such characterizations of The nations of Africa and of our brothers and sisters in Haiti, said Pastor Dr. Maurice Watson of the Metropolitan Baptist Church.
In his speech, the pastor mentioned that some congregation members were from Haiti and African countries. He called the presidents comments hurtful and dehumanizing. He went on to call for the president to be held accountable for his words.
The Vice President reportedly became visibly red-faced at times throughout the speech.
Following his comments, members of the congregation rose out of their seats in support.

According to the church's website, the historically black church was established a year after the Emancipation Proclamation. The service on Sunday was streamed on Facebook.

(6,709 posts)And any repentance would be a sham, as it is with most christianists: no actual change in behavior or atonement is required, just beg forgiveness, shed a few tears and it's all good.

(37,457 posts)1- The repentance would have to be obviously sincere, not a sham.
2- Christianist?! That's a slur. I could not care less that he's a Christian albeit a phony one.
3- There's lots of "Christianists" in our tent. I get you don't like Christians, fair enough. However, the GOOD Christians are the ones on the LEFT and the sincere ones. Not the phony ones like Pence or the ones on the right. NOT all Christians are bad. We don't all ram our beliefs down other's throats or seek to have our beliefs enshrined in public policy.

(15,181 posts)Some might call them wannabe christians but I don't think any of them really wanna be in Jesus's footsteps.
Pseudo-xians works for me, too.
it was not my intention to insult actual Christians--the ones who do their best to follow Jesus' teachings. I just don't see many on the R side, and particularly not Pence.

Hahaha his pandering attempt to blackwash after dump's blatant racism backfires bigly.

(61,538 posts)The article says that Pence became visibly red-faced. I think he was surprised and angered by the sermon.

(61,538 posts)I can't help but notice and laugh. Pence goes to see Hamilton. (Is he trying to show how with it he is?) and the lead actor rakes him over the coals in front of the entire audience.
Pence trundles into a historically black church on Martin Luther King weekend, days after his boss makes incredibly racist statements. What was Pence trying to prove? The pastor seizes the opportunity to make an example of Pence in front of the congregation.
Pence should stick to white country club audiences.

(10,299 posts)He heard the Word of God there. They call it an altar, but it alters your life. Mr. Pence needed an alteration and IMO he went to the right place to do it. Sermons are never meant to be comfortable listening anyway.

(492 posts)I'm glad he didn't walk out. It seems we can't count on government to get rid of these creeps, so it's up to us as humans to shame him and his enablers publicly whenever possible. If Pence has a soul, it must be hitting home.
