Awesome hotel desk clerk

So my husband and I stayed at an unnamed hotel in an unnamed City this weekend- don't want to get anyone in trouble.
The available TV stations included CNN and Fox but no MSNBC.
Our reception of CNN was very poor.
As we were checking out, I mentioned to the desk clerk that CNN was almost impossible to watch and there was no way I would watch Fox.
He said "I think I just fell in love with you and said I'm taking $50 off your bill. Because of your political views, I mean the broken TV 😉"

And it's not as though the desk clerk did anything his manager shouldn't have approved of. Your TV was broken, after all.

Thanks for the report, Danmel!

Btw - don’t EVER be reluctant to speak up and lodge a complaint about the nauseating proliferation of Pox Noise. I got that damnable channel taken off the TV monitors in my local bank branch that way. I’m a regular customer. And I complained several times. One fine day I strolled in to do some business and guess what I saw? All the TV monitors in the place were now tuned to CNN!

DO NOT feel reluctant to complain! It might actually produce results. Either that, or, you then can be sure they don’t deserve your patronage any longer. It can serve as a “Sorting Hat” to help you “cull the herd” of businesses you no longer have to patronize as a result, now that you know where they stand. I learned that in the post-Watergate era - with the “don’t buy books by crooks” movement. Knowledge is power.

Quite a few years ago a bartender waived my bar tab (four drinks for two people). A television behind the bar was on Fox and I politely asked, "If you don't mind, would you please change that television to a news channel?"

He told me the owner insisted it be set to Fox each day, but if a customer complained or asked to have it changed he could put it on CNN or ESPN. Told me he'd been comping drinks to the first customer to ask every day for six months.

I complained and the manager shrugged and said it was company policy. When I got the review email I stated my dissatisfaction with how the matter was handled. They wrote me back saying it was company policy. Never stayed at the chain again.

Now when I travel i stay at Best westerns no fox on in any breakfast room ever.

I always check out the room before bringing in the luggage. Room smelled funky and sure enough when I pulled back the bed covers, bedbugs scurried away. Of course, I went to office, canceled and stayed elsewhere so at least I didn't have to suffer through any Fox news!

When I came back through there, they had added it.

Same for a friend of mine who traveled from Texas to Ohio several times a year. She complained when there was no MSNBC, and found it added the next time she was at that hotel.

Just speak up!

here in So Cal. Otherwise nice, but the big flatscreen TV right in front where people gathered to wait for a table was tuned to Pox Noise. I did my usual. Approached the young woman at the reception podium and politely asked if she couldn’t change the station. She said no. I politely asked why. She replied that the owner of the restaurant insisted it stay tuned to Pox Noise. I expressed my disappointment and she smiled weakly and said “yeah. The owner.” I remained polite throughout, and went back to my seat, gently suggesting she tell her boss he’d just lost a customer for that reason.

They’re known for their tri-tip. But that owner will never get a nickel from me, ever again.

I have noticed, over the 10 years I have been in this business, that republicans are very vocal about their views and assume everyone else agrees with them. I no longer even attempt to smile while they spew their crap. I just check them in and get them to their rooms. Some have even asked before walking all the way into the lobby if we have fox and are prepared to shut the door and go elsewhere if we didn't. We do offer fox, CNN, MSNBC, as well as others. It is so refreshing to check in someone who is liberal and with whom I can chat with. I find a way to give some kind of extra discount for that. Never hesitate to let a desk clerk know you are liberal (by mentioning your preferred news choice) - we appreciate it!
