Serious question. Someone please 'splain it to me, because eyedoan geddit.
How is describing another country as a "shithouse" any different than calling it a "shithole"? Let alone, less offensive?
Serious replies only, please.

(17,984 posts)It is obvious he was actually referring to these sorts of dwellings: https://www.globalcitizen.org/en/content/who-uses-sht-to-build-a-house/

(3,194 posts)On a less serious note though.....Sorry......
A House is clearly much nicer than a Hole. A House has a roof, plumbing, electricity, etc.
A Hole is usually outside and subject to the elements. I would absolutely rather be in a Shithouse than a Shithole.

(8,311 posts)There's the colloquium "brick shithouse", as discussed here:
https://en.m.wiktionary.org/wiki/built_like_a_brick_shithouse
And censored more for radio consumption in the song "Brick House" for the meaning "Well developed woman".
But while I know women are one of Trump's favorite topics, I doubt Durbin misheard heard him "merely" talking vulgarly about a female in this instance during a discussion about immigration.
