Happy New Year.
Starting out right this January 2018, Rural Red Oak, Iowa voters laugh out loud at Republican Senator Joni Ernst @SenJoniErnst defense of Trump.

Joni Ernst doesn't 'appreciate' Trump's rhetoric, doesn't believe he's a racist

BOONE, Ia. — President Donald Trump’s rhetoric detracts from substantive work being done in Washington, D.C., and undermines the United States’ relationships with other countries, Sen. Joni Ernst said Monday.

But she defended him against the charge that he is racist.

Ernst, R-Iowa, stood up to the president — and stood up for him — in response to questions during a town meeting here, her first public event of the new year.

“Believe me, as a senator, I don’t appreciate so much of my time is being spent answering questions about the latest that our president has said instead of asking me questions about the legislation that I’m actually working on,” she said in response to a question from Jerry Bradley, a Vietnam veteran and retired teacher from Des Moines.

Comments from Trump using a vulgar term to describe Haiti, El Salvador and countries in Africa have drawn condemnation in recent days and opened a broad discussion over whether he holds racist views.

“I don’t appreciate the rhetoric,” Ernst said. “What I can say is that I do support some of the policies that we’re working on.”

.................................
Moments later, another attendee raised the question of Trump’s views more directly: Is the president racist?

“Deep inside, no, I don’t think he’s a racist,” Ernst replied, drawing groans from the crowd. “I think he’s brash and he says things that are on his mind, but I don’t truly believe that he’s a racist.”....

This is the problem with Joni Ernst: She is not smart.

She is very average in her intellect. She rode that castrating pigs commercial all the way to Washington and since her election has proven that she should have stayed on the farm.

What is so rich about this clip is that a good number of the people in that room who were laughing at her are probably the descendants of Norwegian immigrants who came to Iowa in the 19th century for the rich farmland.

Standing up for Norway. Oh jeez.

And I thought she was pretty freaking dumb.

BTW, was curious - Red Oak is in SW Iowa, in Steve King Country

It lost 7% of its population 2000-2010 (5,742 in 2010), so it's probably even smaller now - these are the people laughing at her pathetic, ignorant response.

My guess is this is not King's district, but David Young's who is also a massive Republican liar.

District 3 (SW Iowa) is represented by David Young. District 1 (NE Iowa) and District 3 (SW Iowa) are flippable, 3 because of suburban Omaha and Des Moines. District 2 (SE) is solidly blue (think Iowa City) and District 4 (NW) is Steve King country.

You're probably right. Iowa lost its fifth house seat after the 2012 election, and Western Iowa is very red, both north and south. However, with Des Moines and Council Bluffs (suburban Omaha) as part of the equation, the 3rd District can't be written off. Young won 52-42 in the 2016 election. District 2 will stay blue and District 1 is ripe for flipping, with Dubuque, Davenport, Cedar Rapids and Marion all becoming more diverse. Fingers crossed and campaigns at the ready for this year.

.

If she only supports some of the policies that they are working on, which implies that there are multiple she does not agree with, which are the ones that she doesn't support?

fool that he is. Like Nero fiddling while Rome scorched, Trump will be golfing while our country is ravaged and laid imperiled by threats both domestic and foreign. Just imagine what would happen should the stock market collapse like 2008. Like Paul Krugman stated recently there isn’t much the Feds could do. The only thing that might cause Trump’s base to turn on him is a cataclysmic event that destroys the wealth of his well to do supporters and impoverishes his bible thumping base who will look to him to for help when they are destitute and in need of medical assistance. The problem is Trump will have eviscerated the apparatus of government and these ignorant fools may finally realize Trump is a moron incapable of leading in a time of a national emergency. Just think if Trump was president in 2008-2009. Would we still have a car industry or banking system? I fear the day of reckoning will be upon us in the next several years and only then will the nitwit Trump supporters storm the gates of The White House while Trump tweets “let them eat chocolate cake”.
