It is so cold in Houston that I had to put salt on the back steps.

I bought extra salt at the store.

The yard is looking white now.

Going down to the teens I think.

1. You're so hungry that you are eating the back steps?

Oops. Now I understand. Nevermind.

3. This is the coldest week of Winter, so that makes sense, only...

For the coldest point of Winter, it's 15 - 25 degrees above normal out on the west coast, both day, but especially night. The heat in the atmosphere is just not getting out into space. Dry as a bone again too. So much so, I'm thinking of turning my sprinklers on so my shrubs don't dry up and die.

Everyone home from no work because of all the ice and cold. Made a big pot of Chicken and Dumplings for the family. That sure hit the spot.

14. I made some cat shelters for them.

The cats were sleeping tucked in the hay and some old throws I had .

Normally they run but not today.

I gave them extra food.

Two of the strays are related I think.

They are always together.

I get attached to my strays.

17. We've had brutal cold here this winter near Green Bay, WI

but we're equipped for the cold and ready for it, as are our pets and cars. I really feel for you guys in the South as this is an anomaly for you. Stay safe and warm and take care of your pets. Don't leave them outside!

29. Same here.

My Houston house is an old house to.

We have Dearborn gas heaters doing their best.

I have thermal curtains for the windows on the south and west side.

The house is about 65 or so.

Not bad.

I have tall ceilings.

18. Margarita lovers weep at that waste of salt.

You could have had a few margaritas, gone to sleep, and when you wake, the snow will be melted.

Houston ain't Duluth.

We have long hot summers.

Over 100 most days and really humid.

I wish we had temps somewhere in the middle.

28. I just got off the phone with a customer

who lives in Helotes, TX who said she didn't have snow in the yard but there was ice everywhere. She's a former Fedex driver from Alaska so she wasn't losing sleep over the roads, however, she said all their roads, schools, federal and state offices are closed...even some restaurants and stores have shut their doors. It's all in what you're used to. Snow and ice is part of our world up here in MT but give us a few weeks of 95+ degrees and we have a tough time with that! Stay warm Demtexan!
