Thirteen siblings 'held captive' by parents in Perris, California: 'Deeply religious' couple arrested on torture charges

California couple was charged with torture and child endangerment on Tuesday after their 13 children were discovered in an emaciated and filthy state, some shackled to their beds.

David Turpin, 57, and his wife Louise, 49, are being held at the Robert Presley Detention Center in Riverside, 60 miles east of Los Angeles, unable to provide the $9 million bail each set by the judge.

On Thursday the couple will appear in court in Riverside.

Police were alerted when one of their children, a 17-year-old girl, escaped on Sunday and managed to raise the alarm.

She was so emaciated police thought she was only 10.

I imagine someone, somewhere, hiding in some little cave is arguing that very point this instance. But if they are, they're hiding really well behind vaporous state borders living under putative laws.

Behold them! but only after identifying them...

Turns out, some imaginary beliefs are given a much greater reality than other imaginary beliefs. Crazy indeed when we're compelled to make the distinction.

If you read the report, when the daughter who escaped was seen, they said she didn’t look her age. They all were malnourished and stunted in growth. Some shackled to their beds.

More news will be coming as this is investigated.

I’m starting to wonder if the kids are the ones they claim to be or that they were conceived and delivered by the mother.

This is so disturbing

A good Christian family, with a history of taking in foster children. The father was awarded a Father of the Year award by the state. Then he was arrested for brutally discipling the children by beating them, all in accordance with the Bible, of course.

... David and Louise Turpin appeared to have had marriage-renewal ceremonies at least three times, in 2011, 2013 and 2015, at an Elvis Presley-themed chapel in Las Vegas, according to the chapel's YouTube page. One video shows the couple exchanging renewal vows in front of an Elvis impersonator.

Another video showed 10 female children in matching purple plaid dresses walking down the aisle ahead of Louise towards David, who waited anxiously at the altar with two male children in suits.

A third male child dressed in a suit appeared later in the video during various dance performances with the Elvis impersonator and the family.

An Elvis Chapel representative did not immediately respond to a request for comment ...
