We clearly have a leadership void in the party. We jump on every name that pops up as a potential candidate. Sometimes out of the blue - like Oprah. I know it's just fun in many cases, but man, why is this even close to a consideration?

We may have a void in leadership you like, but there are at least 8 Democratic Candidates I can get behind. Between Senators and Governors.

My preference is Brown. If of course he wins re-election. But if he wins re-election in Ohio Trump cannot beat him. That gravelly voice and Midwestern values and demeanor would do the trick even without issues. But a fellow DU member told me his wife has promised(seriously) do divorce him if he runs!

Besides him I favor governors or recently ex-governors. Washington State, Virginia are two that come to minds.

Others that could rally support and beat Trump are Harris and Booker. Either I could support although I think Booker would be the better candidate.

I could go on.

Are none of these acceptable to you? Because all could defeat Trump and be good liberal presidents.

It has been a long time since our party has had a wide open primary without a safe fallback there in the wings. This process will make us stronger.

1). I do not think Trump will be around in 2020. If he is, I am not sure a K Harris has the name recognition to beat anyone, let alone Trump if he were there.

2). I am not a "supporter" per se, but you seem to have left out Bernie Sanders. If I look at poll numbers and out right populism, he would smoke any one of the candidates you suggest. He also seems to have pull with youth, independents, and ever Trumpanzees.

Again, no clear leader. Much can and will happen in the next 3 years. I'm going to focus on the midterms tbh and pick this conversation up in 2019.

Please note, I appreciate your thoughtful response. It is appreciated.

As to your other point...I support members of the Democratic Party.

And if Sanders decides to run again, and is allowed to run on our ticket which is not assured, the Southern Primaries and yelling fatigue will do him in.

If you find Sherrod Brown only acceptable that tells me your mind is made up.

But I suspected that when responding to your post.

Have a nice evening.

It's a general snapshot of the popularity (or lack thereof) of Trump.

We need to select the best possible candidate, who can carry the election in spite of Russian interference, restrictive voting laws, and an intensely negative campaign which would likely feature all-day Trump coverage (again).

We also need to choose someone who can do the job and do it well.

How about Democrats and Republicans start taking the Presidency of the US seriously and stop nominating grossly unqualified celebrities to be leader of the free world. It was dumb of the GOP to nominate Trump and it’d be dumb for the Democrats to nominate Oprah. This is fucking ridiculous. No. No. No.

Oprah is well known, but she's never been subject to concerted media attacks, as any nominee would be.
