Glenn Simpson, the co-founder of opposition research firm Fusion GPS, told Congress in November that the Russian government appeared to purge people after his firms research on President Trumps alleged Kremlin connections became public.
The Kremlin used the publication of his firms dossierwhich contains salacious and unsubstantiated allegations about Trumpas a pretext for a spate of arrests and killings, Simpson said. He also said some of those people who were purged may have been sources for the American intelligence community.
Simpson made this revelation when Rep. Jackie Speier (D-CA), a member of the House intelligence committee, asked him about sources for the dossier. And it appears that one of the sources was mysteriously killed? she asked.
That's not my information, Simpson replied. I mean there was a series of episodes where people were arrested or died mysteriously that came shortly after the disclosure of the existence of this information. And I do believe there was a bit of an old fashioned purge. And I think thatbut to my knowledge, it wasnt anyone that helped us. think it was more likely people who were taking the opportunity to settle scores or were falsely accused, as often, you know, just like in the old days, and/or were sources of the U.S. Intelligence Community, not us.

(30,613 posts)1. What a horrible price to pay for the Dossier.
I hope he's right that the links are not direct or all that real.
But there was quite a rash of killings of prominent Russians, a couple of them even on US soil.

(51,567 posts)2. This was reported before when the Senate (Feinstein)
released the 10 hour Senate testimony. So now it is likely more than one person was killed. The timing of the discovery of the Fusion GPS dossier and all those killings is pretty interesting and makes sense.

I don't think this connection was made at the time but it was said by an intelligence person. I don't recall his name.
