Happy Government Shutdown Eve...

...looks like it happening. I have very mixed feeling about it. Glad its being done in the name of something legitimate. I am not sure what all will be shut down....gvnt checks I suppose? My parents at 87 and 93 so I stocked them up on food in case their checks are held up. Dad gets VA benefits and home services. Will these be interrupted?

Former Fed. worker. Any worker declared "vital" will have to continue to work with out pay. Prior shutdowns declared medical workers vital, so VA medical stayed open. Government checks did not stop in prior shutdowns, but you will not be able to apply for SSI or contact anyone if there is an issue with your SSI or other government assistance.

As to your fathers home care, that is going to be determined by his need. If the care is a person who comes in to assist with cleaning et al, that may become "not vital", if they are medical personnel (home nurse), in general that stays "vital".
