Iowa Boys Charged In Connection With Deaths Of Half A Million Honeybees.

Two boys have been charged with killing a half-million bees after they allegedly vandalized a honey farm in Sioux City, Iowa, knocking over hives and exposing the bees to deadly winter temperatures.

The suspects are 12 and 13 years old and their names are not being released because of their age.

Police announced Wednesday that the boys had been arrested. They have been charged with criminal mischief, agricultural animal facilities offenses and burglary, all felonies, according to The Sioux City Journal.

"They knocked over every single hive, killing all the bees. They wiped us out completely," Justin Engelhardt, who owns Wild Hill Honey with his wife, Tori Engelhardt, told the newspaper last month when the vandalism took place.

"They broke into our shed, they took all our equipment out and threw it out in the snow, smashed what they could," he said, calling the crime "completely senseless."

I'm wondering if they wre sent there by some enterprising adult who didn't think boys would be charged with a crime for doing this. Some kind of personal vendetta, maybe?

trust me, these neighbor disputes are a HUGE problem for urban farmers, and those trying to live sustainable lives.

i have been dragged through the mud over my chickens.

I don't often hear a rooster crowing at dawn, but when I do, it's kind of cool...

....who lived next door to a farm that raised roosters. There were more roosters than hens, from the sound of it -- all night long.

I just wonder what the law is gonna do with these stupid kids?

Also if you have a big operation like that, WTH don't you have some security cams, alarms etc?

That makes zero sense to me.

Hunters use them all the time in the woods to find out where the deer and other game animals are.

I'm just saying there must be some kinda security features these people could have used.

I bet they put some in place now when they rebuild.
