'Malfunction' blamed when Shearon Harris sirens activate, sparking questions

NEW HILL, N.C. — The sirens that went off Friday afternoon at the Shearon Harris Nuclear Power Plant resulted from an accidental activation, police said.

Officials have not said yet what prompted the mishap, but the sirens at the plant, located in New Hill, N.C., in southern Wake County, prompted a flurry of calls to the WRAL newsroom and posts on social media.

The Apex Police Department tweeted around 1:15 p.m. that Wake County Emergency Management confirmed that the siren's alarm system went off in error and there were no issues at the plant.

Officials at Wake County posted a statement on Facebook saying the alarms were tripped in error.

My neighbors and I in Holly Springs heard this alarm around 1 pm. We waited for confirmation from the local pd and news sites before we evacuated. Something aint right about this at all - I suspect Duke Energy was hacked. And I doubt we will get the 100% truth from those weasels.

Russians are hacking into our alert systems and letting us know just how vulnerable we are. If we screw around and go after them and Trump in the financial sector, they can take us down in more ways than one.

We are seeing the Navy being inept thru corruption, malfeasance, that has killed personnel, we are finding out how badly critical systems need effective computer security, and that is not counting the damage The Neo-cons are doing to our gov.

Of course the government would never admit that it was a foreign hacker setting these off. That would show just how incompetent they really are.

This is getting us "used to" alarms so if one goes off for real we will think it's fake.

Then you have people too stupid to not put their password on a effing sticky note and leave it on a screen. Which is what happened in Hawaii...
