about $30-50 more each grocery trip. It adds up every month...I used to have to pad my budget about $100 or so, now we're at over $200.

My house insurance went up. Utilities have begun to tack on price increases.

Everybody has their hands in our wallets. But the Repugs are getting by saying that our paychecks will be bigger next month.

It's just a ruse.

And (deregulated) stock market gains? So the order comes down to paint a rosy picture of the economy? And not just the bosses but no doubt many others working for cable news.

I always get a kick out of Lester Holt on NBC Nightly News when he reports the day's stock market gains, calling it "your money." Does he know that he's only addressing maybe half of his viewers when he says that since only half of Americans owns any stocks.

I suspect there has been a deliberate attempt through the years for media to equate the overall health of the economy with stock market gains, at least since financialization of the 1980s when "prosperity" became more about rewarding investors than about rewarding people who actually work for a living.
