the democrats are being ripped for not perpetuating the shutdown until a DACA vote.............
so........
since the CR is only for 3 weeks, what is stopping the Dems from going to another shutdown if McConnell renegs?
In other words why is it better to leave the government and all its employees in limbo when the same shutdown scenario exists in 3 weeks and can be used as leverage again? The GOP played chicken... they lost....... and now they know the same thing will not only happen again, but now in addition to public support we had the first time, we also have McConnell's promise (meaningless to mitch but not the public watching) and a funded CHIP that they can't use as a hostage anymore. If anything the left seems to have MORE leverage.
or... am i missing something?

(53,764 posts)in 3 weeks if we don't get a good deal on DACA.
Plus we got McConnell on the record promising a vote, and CHIP is out of the negotiations.

Veteran's care, probably.
Troops (the GOP loves to take the Troops hostage)
Medicaid expansion and community clinics?
Those are all off the top of my head.
There is a lot of governance that has been hanging in the wind, as McConnell and Ryan are too busy playing "CEOs" than doing their jobs.

(53 posts)What's up their sleeves.......
They were willing to risk another shutdown and
then suddenly made a promise to end it, to what end.....
Smells like they were stalling ....

(53 posts)If they separate DACA from the CR discussions it could become virtually impossible to stop them.
All they have to do is push a plan for resolving the daca dilemma with a simple majority. AKA democrats damned if they do , damned if they don't since they have the majority and enough people on both sides who do not want to be seen as anti or apathetic to immigration issues.
Then push another CR without DACA and they end up with 60 votes without any further deals.
They have a path to get what they want and make democrats look bad either way.....
Democrats will have to stay committed and calm to pull through. Remember, election do have consequences and any improvement in immigration (from whatever they do) will have to come from democratic majorities which could be 1 election away. Any step towards securing the right to stay is better than the possibility of deportation. I know 1 guy who would rather be here under less than desirable terms than booted from the country and separated from his family. Small steps could of kept him here.
