(5,810 posts)6. I think we need to remind ourselves
that Hitler didnt just come to power in one day. It was over a period of years. He gradually acquired his power and authority and no one stopped him at each step along the way. It is easy to point the finger at the German people and wonder why they allowed him to continue his destructive, monstrous path that ultimately took the lives of millions and ensnared nations around the world in a clash of ideas and policies. Can we look at ourselves for just one clear moment?
tRump told us who he was for months as he campaigned on a platform of hate, misplaced trust and division. His life record was filled with dishonesty, failed businesses and a personal life that qualified as a train wreck. And yet the masses flocked to see him and cheer for his most hateful rhetoric. He brought out the worst in them. And he grinned and pumped his fist as his ego received a massive boost. Many of us were horrified, it is true, but were unable to stop the inevitable.
You may say but they cheated in order to ensure he would win. True. The Russians, tRump campaign and Republicans all worked together to make the election end with a victory for tRump. It was a rather weak victory when you consider the popular vote but thats our system. By manipulation of voting districts and who knows what else (vote flipping?), a man clearly rejected by the American people sits in the Oval Office today.
We are only uncovering the extent of the cheating that took place in 2016. So we seemingly are stuck with Hitler-lite. He is on a power drunken path that has taken us to places and policies we assumed this country would NEVER go. Who knows what else he has planned to do?
So we are living the story the Germans faced in the 1930s. While there are people (many people) who most assuredly do not support tRump and his policies and truly believe tRump was elected with deception and dishonesty, so far we have been unable to stop tRump. There have been a few court victories, stopping things like the travel bans, but tRump remains in office with all the rights and privileges it holds.
The big question is how much longer this travesty is allowed to continue. I guess we have to watch it unfold. No one wants to think the legacy of Hitler can be repeated but if all we do is watch, that is where we are headed.

The RW is always quick to accuse one of hyperbole when questioning the character and motives of their "leader(s)", but the similarities can't be ignored if we are to really grow as a nation and civilization.

Remove tRump and rid our government of all those that supported him.
Its going to take a long time to correct this mess, many will go to jail.
