General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsHaving gotten a night's sleep, I regret the divisiveness that we experienced here last night. I hope
we can do better going forward. However one characterizes how the shutdown ended, all of us woke up this morning in a nation facing an existential threat called Donald Trump. To some extent, we've all been ignoring the obvious----the elephant in the room----: no plans make sense---no progress is possible---our nation cannot heal---until Trump is removed from the office he disgraces daily.
I will work with anyone who will help depose this monster. I have never voted for anyone not a Democrat and I ALWAYS vote. Any differences we may have among ourselves surely pale beside the gulf which separates us from Trump supporters.
That was an olive branch. You may judge it a poor one, but there it is.

(68,539 posts)find ourselves in this predicament. However no matter how you roll politically in terms of moderate or liberal or a little of both...everyone needs to work to stop the orange menace. If we take the House and Senate in 18...we stop Trump cold...no more policy and no more judges. If we take the house, we stop the policy...we should open our own investigations and put the GOP weasels in prison....they have much to hide. I am a Democrat. I stand with any Democrat that stands against Trump...hell any person who wants Trump gone can join us to throw this piece of shit who stole the presidency out...you were not particularly divisive last night...and I understand... I am sick about DACA.

(17,425 posts)The issue on whether the Dems "caved" or not has many facets, and I made an OP that was rather black and white, unnecessarily.
To be honest, I'm still not sure what the answer is, and I think only time will show that.

(68,539 posts)Again, I thought folks were relatively restrained last night.

(17,425 posts)I think I was pissed off because I knew Trump would be crowing about a "victory".
That being said, I'm happy about the children's health plan, and I guess we'll just have to wait and see about DACA.
Schumer is a smart cat, and I trust him. Even if he is not successful on this, I still trust that he played his hand reasonably based on the knowledge he has.

(128,706 posts)He "crows" about "a victory" (for himself) at every opportunity and for any situation, no matter what. Even when his E.O.s are shot down in court and his poll numbers are the worst for any President in history during the first year of a term.
(sorry, had to do it)

(4,642 posts)The party must stick together, vote together, do not deal with, do not believe, do not give in to the fascists, fight them no matter what is at stake because every time they get their way makes them stronger and us weaker. Its that simple.

(50,248 posts)We CAN take over Congress in November and then we CAN get the policies we want. By then we should also have facts presented by the Special Prosecutor that no one can deny and we CAN impeach his orange ass.

(11,562 posts)It goes without saying that the overwhelming number of DUers (the "genuine" ones, in other words) have the same Wish List, but may consider different items on that list as non-negotiable.
One of the key traits of liberalism is an ability to consider nuance, and one of the key traits of intelligence is the ability to concurrently hold contrary thoughts in mind while making decisions.
Reasonable people may disagree on the details of a course of action, but the correct path is sometimes only truly discernible in retrospect. Doing something forward-going sincerely is a hell of a distance from doing nothing.

(41,956 posts)Yes, the issues are deeply emotional and I'm all for using our deep feelings for our fellow human beings as a guide. But getting angry and letting ourselves become overwhelmed by the fire hosing of shaming and lying and insults coming from the right (and GOD knows, that asshole in the White House) while being hammered by the other side is incredibly counterproductive.
Personally, I think the Democrats in Congress are trying to manipulate things to our advantage as much as possible and are counting on us to stick together and respond to the Blue Tsunami in 2018. I don't love what's happening but we're trading the possible good for the impossible perfect.
Hang in there. Sometimes resistance is a slow, steady drip.

(23,297 posts)last night before it got too heated...in an effort to actually get some sleep. Let's face it...we're all we've got folks. If we don't fight to defend America together, nobody else will do it.
I'm heartbroken over DACA and I'm still holding out hope. Glad CHIP is safe for the moment, however. I'm choosing to trust that Schumer has something up his sleeve.
