My educated guess: He has probably been caught in multiple perjuries, if his many Congressional testimonies are any guide.
Mueller's team is not going to let him slide. They have the facts. He says one thing in one setting....and comes to Mueller's office and says something else. Perjury.

Cat is out of the bag now. No going back. This is getting really interesting.

The rule of law is in the balance.
