They have surrendered their hearts and minds to a vulgar and dangerous authoritarian. The most surprising aspect of it all is how so-called "Evangelicals" have embraced him. It is amazing the extent they go to rationalize their support. In the process, they have lost any claim to moral leadership or the right to speak for any true Christian in this country. They drank the kool-aid.
But, they are not alone. People all across this country have bought into the Elmer Gantry-like sermons of the wannabe dictator. Even many of our elected Representatives have felt called to defend the Cult of Personality. They have bought into his fear and paranoia. They no longer trust the FBI or the free press or any of our institutions. They have given up on the ideal of justice. They do not believe anyone can be fair in any investigation of wrongdoing unless they are part of their Cult.

(13,305 posts)..this has been the case for at least 20 years now, possibly more. Which is why it's so frustrating not only hearing the whole "both sides" crap from the media, but seen far too many in our own party (both voters and elected officials) buy into it and still operate and function and plan as though there are any Republicans in power who will operate in good faith, and also that there are any registered Republican voters who can be swayed to vote for Democrats.
