2. Because he votes with the Dems to caucus and that's all that matters

Oh yeah he voted with the Democrats on the Obamacare repeal and a host of other issues. But let's just toss him out to become a repub because this Democratic senator from a very red state says things we don't like.

I'm constantly amazed at how many people here don't understand how our government works. The Democrats have a chance to win control of the Senate this year but if they do it will be by a very slim margin. We need every vote we can get to do it. Say, following your proposal, the Dems end up with 50 votes but Manchin declares he's a repub and votes with them to caucus as a repub. We could have had control of at least one part of government but no it's more important to be "pure".

It's politics not an ideological purity test.

He's in a Red State. He "needs" to say red things but follow his critical votes (not the throw away ones).
He votes with the party.

5. And why not give the seat to a very far right wing Republican, which that would do.

I disagree with some of his viewpoints. But let's be clear: a West Virginia Democrat like Manchin is far superior to any Republican replacement for him.

Scenario 1: The present one in which we have Manchin as a Democratic Senator who can get elected and reelected as a person who is much more conservative than his Democratic colleagues, but more liberal than his Republican colleagues, and who helps the Democratic party's power count in the Senate.

Scenario 2: Manchin espousing policies that are modestly liberal, who would not have been elected in the first place, or who would have changed his policies to those of a modestly liberal Senator after having been elected as a conservative Democrat, leading to the Senate seat being a safe Republican one, helping the Republicans have a more secure hold on Senate power.

I will choose scenario 1 any day over scenario 2, knowing that scenario 1 is the best we can get.

..hearing a republikkklan speak because there are somethings such ideology and rhetoric you just can't hide. If he were truly a democrat it wouldn't matter if he, you or I were standing in kkkcountry we'd defend liberal views, we'd stand in truth..I just don't view this guy as sincere.

In Spanish there is a phrase often used that expresses lack of trust, someone who isn't being honest and that's Manchin.

We don't need purity tests to shrink the party.

9. Anything that help Manchin in WV is OK with me

He will not weaken Pelosi in SF.

We can get control of the Senate with 51 D's. who gives a fuck what a Democratic Senator says if they are from Alabama, West Virginia, North Dakota, Montana, or Tennessee (if we ever get one in Tenn.).

What we haven't learned yet, as Democrats, that the Republicans know all too well, is arithmetic.

Stop criticizing Democrats until we are in the majority. Then we can move toward purity. Until then, just get the numbers up.

...who are always out there taking liberal positions, defending Democrats and bashing Republicans.

Oh wait, no it's not because that doesn't happen.

It amazes me that posters to a message board get jumped on for even the most innocuous commentary on the party because "DON'T BASH DEMS!! IT"S DEMORALIZING AND HURTS OUR CHANCES!!!!" but then give a pass to folks like this clown who is...you know in an actual position of power and doing this bullshit on national tv.
