First lady Melania Trump took 21 flights in a three-month period on Air Force jets at a cost of more than $675,000 before she moved to the White House in June 2017, military records show.

Air Force jets flew Mrs. Trump to and from New York City, Florida and Washington under an arrangement unlike any modern first lady because she was living in New York after President Donald Trump’s inauguration to allow their son Barron to finish the fifth grade.

While the first lady was living in Trump Tower in Manhattan, Air Force jets made at least 19 trips to LaGuardia Airport in New York and nine trips to Florida’s Palm Beach International Airport to drop off or pick up Mrs. Trump, according to military records reviewed by The Wall Street Journal.

The records, received after a public-records request filed by the Journal, cover the period from the inauguration through April 2017. The request for the records was filed at the beginning of May, the last full month before Mrs. Trump moved to Washington.

when Michelle flew to Hawaii earlier than Barack for Christmas. They claimed that wasted taxpayer's money, and they should have gone on the same flight.

5. Low Figure

That seems like a very low figure if she took that many flights. Where those jets really small? How much did it cost to operate those jets per hour? Where tax payers only charged a portion of the costs because the flights were not politics related? Why did tax payers have to pay any money for those flights? Do tax payers have to pay the costs of all of her and her husband's flights as long as the flights are not related to politics?

6. A Couple More Questions

How are costs amortized across the year for a jet that is a sunk cost? Is this fuel plus coordination costs only?

Are they only charging for hours in excess of the time the pilot would have had a plane up because they need to maintain their hours and the plane needs a certain amount of flight time per month?

This number could be way understated or it could be quite overstated. That's why the questions we have posed are in need of answers.
