President Donald Trumps willingness to crack down on Russia will be seriously tested come Monday.
Trump faces a major deadline to use the Russia sanctions power that Congress overwhelmingly voted to give him and its anybodys guess as to whether hell comply on time after missing the last deadline.
Scrutiny is high, amid lingering suspicion of Trumps eagerness to mend fences with Russia and with special counsel Robert Muellers investigation still digging into election meddling by Moscow. Lawmakers on both sides of the aisle remain keen to get tough on Vladimir Putins government.
And they have reason to worry about whether the popular sanctions package Trump reluctantly signed in August will be implemented just as hesitantly. The Russia provisions of the bill were designed as a response to Moscows meddling in the 2016 election, which the president himself has downplayed."

(30,613 posts)He's going to need everything he can get when Mueller starts the flood of indictments. This will not help him convince the public that there's "No Collusion! No Collusion! No Collusion! No Collusion! No Collusion! No Collusion! No Collusion!"

(56,828 posts)that's when I really sat up and took notice of her. (she reminded him that he was previously bragging about how he had back channel communications with Russia and his response to her was calling her either the B or the C word, or maybe both... real classy)

(3,432 posts)is that anytime Trump is approached on the issue, he blows up because he sees it as an attack on his legitimacy as president. A sharp piece of evidence that he is not fit top be president.

"Heres a pertinent article from Ricochet to get you started, but beware, the oddity that is Dugin and Duginism goes Deep. Very Deep. Dugin is Putins Rasputin and he has Putins ear. Here are the highly relevant choice quotes from the aforementioned article. Keep in mind, with the recent election of Trump as POTUS, which isnt Official yet folks, Dugin is on record as saying we now control Washington D.C.. Wrap your head around that."

(16,104 posts)just ignore the Legislative Branch which makes our laws?
Sounds like our Judicial Branch which opines on constitutional crisis will be getting involved.
orangecrush
(19,436 posts)it would require Congress to pass an act to mandate implementation.
Unlikely that repubs will do this, unless they grow a conscience.

And the Constitution on the president's duties:
Article II
Section 3.
He shall from time to time give to the Congress information of the state of the union, and recommend to their consideration such measures as he shall judge necessary and expedient; he may, on extraordinary occasions, convene both Houses, or either of them, and in case of disagreement between them, with respect to the time of adjournment, he may adjourn them to such time as he shall think proper; he shall receive ambassadors and other public ministers; he shall take care that the laws be faithfully executed, and shall commission all the officers of the United States.
Section 4.
The President, Vice President and all civil officers of the United States, shall be removed from office on impeachment for, and conviction of, treason, bribery, or other high crimes and misdemeanors.

The president is required to execute, that is enforce, the laws passed by Congress.

(10,825 posts)Just mentioned this at TPM. Today is the deadline for the: Name and Shame list. While everyone runs around wondering what Nunes is doing and all the MEMO FEVER, as well as McCabe stepping down, the important news is the required Treasury Report, listing Russian oligarchs and businesses with corresponding Corruption Indices.
All these other stories are distraction and noise.
